Hey guys. Got some questions.

I'm setting up a little grow in my basement. its concrete flooring, open air rafter ceiling, and a pretty decent spot.

The weather gets pretty cold at times, and concrete floors dont help. but i have ideas.

1. the area will be about 4L x 4W x 6H. the flooring a peice of plywood on 9 bricks (basement gains about an inch of water after rain sometimes). the top would be another peice of ply. now for reflection i thought space blankets or emergency blankets would work great for the wall. just put them between the rafter and ply before screwing it together. staple it to the bottom. in colder conditions i could add blankets, etc. think they'd be a decent possibility?

2. i plan to but in a 250watt light in and grow 2 girls at a time. im concerned about the heat though. i have a digital thermometer/humidity gauge, but i'm not sure how to control temp. i want to cut a square in the top ply leading into the rafter, where i could put a small exaust fan. but i'm not sure its enough.

3. my biggest concern is insect and humidity problems. humidity i feel more confident about, but it being a basement, insects are a serious concern. if i add the exhaust, it will be the only non-airsealed portion of the room. i dont want mites or anything finding a way through that exaust, even with air flowing through. i think a few strategicly placed nylon or silk screens, like leggings or panty hoes cut to be flat, would help.

thanks for the read. let me know what you think.

1. Yes, that will work. I would also recommend getting Mylar 2mm reflective sheets to hang around the grow area in order to better reflect light onto your plants

2. A mist system will help control hot temps and low humidity. I say get a larger fan because it would probably circulate the air better. Or get 2 fans and put them on either side of the grow area, one high up and one lower towards the bottom.

3. I like your idea of nylon or silk screens, that would probably work. There are many organic ways to get rid of pests/insects. One way is to folier spray your plants with water with added Canola oil or other horticultural oils as well as organic soaps such as Dr. Bronners Hemp soap. This will smother eggs of insects that may be on your babies. I recommend dry ice for suffocating pests. Because your grow area will be sealed off, if you drop dry ice into a metal container with hot water above your plants will cause the CO2 vapor to drift down onto your plants and the area will fill with the CO2 and suffocate all the pests in there. It can be dangerous for you though so be careful and do some research on dry ice applications in gardens, I'm sure there's plenty of information out there

Ooo CO2 sounds fun. Haha. Ya, I had a little guy goin for a few months just in the window and out in the sun that was attacked by mites. Heartbreaking day when I found it to be male. Lol. But this setup is a bare minimum money situation so tryin hard to improvise. The mister sounds like a good idea.

But the heat I'm still concerned about. Anyone have any idea how much heat they give off? It'd be nice to know what kinda temp to expect.
