Knowledge = Power (and with this power may we help others who do not yet possess knowledge)

I'm all about continuous self education. Which brings me to my endless search for stellar eye opening documentaries. I have more however lets keep it simple and start with the 2 most recent.

#1 - Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1276962/

Many well rounded points - Shrouded in witty sarcasm

Due to the name I really didn't want to watch it but after reading the reviews decided to give it a chance.

Another Good Documentary I recently watched was "Detropia" = A Must See for MI Residents (i say a must see).

If you can't find them on Youtube ... just Google the title with "streaming" for example "Watch Detropia Streaming" as that should find a site that has it for free (although we should continue to support these artists by buying copies as well)

If you have one that has changed your prospective and or is a must see... please share.

Nice Documentary on Detroit. It's amazing how the city is a skeleton of what it use to be, much thanks to the greed in this Country. The statistics shown for job loss and manufacturing plant closings/outsourcing is overwhelming.

I saw a preview for a Documentary called "The Bridge" a few years back and was intrigued to watch it. The Documentary films several people jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (No Gore). I was able to find it on youtube and although it's a bit on the Morbid side, it gives you a look into what might drive a person to do such a thing and how it has affected their family and friends. It may not be your cup of tea, but is very interesting nevertheless.

Here is the trailer, and the full video can be found in the Related Videos.

That's what I'd call too compassionate, or futile. Where there's a will there's a way. I'm afraid of heights, so just the thought of jumping would make me shit. If i even got close to the edge i'd shit, then die. Wish Spading Gray hadn't jumped off a bridge, but the dude was suffering. there's plenty more talent out there so life must move frwd.

I'm with ya. But not so much afraid of heights but falling from heights. Probably the last way I would ever think of finishing my chapter. Auto erotic asphyxiation with a really hot high dollar hooker and a pile of coke maybe but definitely not jumping

Yea it's a tough one to watch.

No one knows what anyone is going through at any given time.

Compassion goes a long way.

(nice pick)

Anyone seen longitudinal doc 7-up?
They check in on people every seven years and how their lives have progressed. Fascinating concept to me. Seen 42-up (may have lost count) but by now some of the participants dropped out of the study/film series. One guy wanted to be a famous horse jockey but he ended up a cab driver. it's a cruel world but each one can make a difference by remaining conScious (there is an S in conscious) in their indiv. unique way, however that may be.

I would love to watch this series but I cannot seem to find any of the early videos. Starting near the end of the series would ruin it for me. This definitely needs to be watched from the beginning. Any idea where the earlier Documentaries might be?

the series of each film per 7 yrs avail somewhere. there shld be a box set. they backtrack some in each film, but it's not the same as detailed 'character' bldg... we don't read the last chapter first, usually. This reality tv(film) took over 50 yrs to produce... and is still going. kinda slow paced for gen y, z and a, but nothing quite like this has ever been done so i find it noteworthy.

I hope this thread takes off. I have seen all of the above, besides the 56 up. I did see 42 up? Well, the one that was on Netflix last year.
I am horrible with titles but, will spend a good amount of time digging up the best ones I can remember.

yea guess previous was 49up. lookin to still see 56up from 2012.

Anyone seen Dark Days, where ppl live in the old subway tunnels beneath Manhattan? It's like a whole new part o' town down there. DJ Shadow has this integral haunting groove soundtrack for documentary that flowed perfectly throughout. the squatters that dwell under the city and their stories are interesting, yet the soundtrack overshadows them, with how much I liked the the -sound- of the doc.

I used to go out with a British girl that was going to film school at UCLA, I just emailed to get her
favorite list of docs. I remember watching tons of really good stuff with her, foreign stuff too.

Here is my list so far. I have many more, I just have to dig past my Netflix queue.

My trip to Al Qaeda, not what it sounds like but, done by a very brilliant man and tries to make sense
of everything more then anyone else. A++++ doc
They call it Myanmar or Burma: A forgotten country, I can not remember which one I really liked, just
that it was about Myanmar.
Burma VJ also, about Myanmar. I have a thing for Burma, I hope to live there one day or at least spend
as much time as I can there in the future.
180 south really good travel adventure doc, it makes you want to pack your shit and go.
The Ambassador
Blindsight

Six days to air. It's a doc on the behind the scenes making of South Park.
I have a lot more appreciation for the show after watching it.
I would have thought they would have 20+ writers working
on each episode for months. It's four of them doing all the
writing in six days.
