Storage shed idea

I was thinking about renting out a storage shed that had some outlets and doing a small grow in it. My plan is to put a bunch of random junk that people would normally have in a shed(furniture, old tvs, etc.). and have a 2-3 grow closets in the back that looked like normal storage closets. I would have filters on the fans in the closets so a mass ventilation system wouldn't be needed and use cfls to minimize electricity consumption. What is your guys opinion on this? This is still just an idea for me so any criticism to potential save my ass would be greatly appreciated. :bigjoint:

The first thing jumping out at me is that you probably wouldn't pay for your electricity in that type of storage. The owners may notice the added electricity and start investigating. Depending on the climate ambient temperatures may also be a big problem.

for the electricity charge i was thinking that i could tell them before hand that i would being using a refrigerator to store meat from hunting or something along the lines of that and maybe offer them a little more a month to make them happy. also the place i was thinking about growing is a huge facility with multiple floors and such so i dont think they would notice me going to it too often, i could also use different cars or bike there every once if they noticed that way

My suggestion would be that you offer owner the explanation that you have an internet business of some kind, and need a place to store your product. This gives you a reason to be there on a daily basis, just be sure to take a few boxes in occasionally, and a few out to keep up the pretense. Also, there are storage facilities that anticipate that businesses run out of storage units may need electricity. I would be upfront about your electric consumption and offer to pay for it. This will at least alleviate the owner's concerns and most likely ( unless he is a nosy bastard ) keep owner from investigating. I used to do asphalt, and while resurfacing the asphalt at a U-store, discovered that some guys had set up a porn studio in a unit, which leads me to believe that, at least in that circumstance, the owner's only real concern was getting his rent, and in this case, payment on the electric.

i think that there are just way too many things that can go wrong, too many people near, not under your own control, no security, electrical issues... i just think it is way too many things that go wrong, and not enough payoff, unless you are going really really large, in which case, why not a part of a warehouse? or a small out-building?
