Often we say %thc to represent total cannabinoids...for example blast 10 grams with butane, receiving 3 grams would be 30% by weight and that is quite high but I have seen AVERAGES of 27% with some of our members, 20% is common after winterizing...

Now when you take that product to get tested they will say yo that 3 grams is 70%thca and x%thc and cbn etc etc
These ratios/% determine the type of high

The first % tells you how much of that (ratio of cannabinoids) there is by weight.......

Percentage of THC will not tell you what type of high you will get. Just because there's a high percent of THC doesn't mean that it's real stoney bud. It's the mixture of the different cannibanoids, combined in different percentages that make up the profile of the high. Some of the most popular and supposably strongest strains are no more than 10%THC. Bottom line just because your bud tests out with a high percent of THC doesn't necessarily mean its going to give you a strong high. There are many other variables that make up what type of high to will experience. On top of all this everybody's chemistry is different so the many different active substances in cannabis will affect each individual differently. I've done alot of reading/research pertaining to this, most of this we are just now starting to understand, and sorry I don't have all the references but if you are interested try Googling all about THC testing. THC percentage testing will not tell you how strong your high will be- period. Take those tests with a big grain of salt. Flaming can begin!

So you can look at testing results and know what type of high each individual will get from that pecticular strain? If so, you are a wizard. Also have all the terpenes and all the cannabinoids been fully identified? I don't think so. We are still finding out about new properties of these cannabinoids. We are far from knowing how cannabis affects all individuals.

But seriously the terpenes are not unique to cannabis and have been studied..we can produce the cannabinoids synthetically and test them as well.. we know binding efficiencies and half lives and the interactions etc etc.....but that is how I make a living

What about categorizing highs? People explain their highs in different ways, most very vague. So lab techs make up a "check which box pertains" type of worksheet for their testers'? Highs are exclusive to individuals, just like pharmaceuticals affect different people in different ways. Then there's the aspect of side effects. Different people have different reactions, same goes for cannnabis. I know people that will smoke a certain strain and be out- couch lock, others will smoke the same strain and be energetic. How could anyone possibly predict this, especially by using a THC test?
As you can tell I'm still very skeptical about these THC tests. I dont think these tests can accurately predict how a cannabis plant will effect the user. I've smoked buds tested out at very high THC levels and very low levels, lots of them are very deceiving; meaning I've gotten just as high from low THC buds as from some of the highest tested cannabis. This is far from an exact science, were still learning as we go, but were nowhere near where we need to be.

Everyone reacts differently..but let's not exaggerate the effects.. I don't know many people that would say epinephrine makes them fall asleep..same with side effects, pain pills make all constipated..of course there are slight variations but overall yea you can predict exactly..they all react to receptors in the same way so in any case we can theoretically predict by studying mode of action the pharmacokinetics. We can theoretically predict how your body will react to a t.....but of course there are slight variations, not enough to alter the type of high

Cbd creates the ceiling. Even a sativa with low thc will get you very high if you keep smoking..because it lacks cannabinoids that fight for the same receptor..

Actually there are some very exaggerated side effects. People that take "uppers" that give the opposite effect. I've known several that would do cocaine and it would make them tried. What about the drug Ritalin (spelling?) used to calm down hyper people, but when taken by others, it acts like an upper. There are many other examples. You might have a better scientific background than myself but from my experiences, very extensive, I have to disagree with you. Today's THC testing is not an accurate way to determine how powerful or how good your buds are. It's a start and maybe a very broad guideline at best. Thank you for your input and feel free to enlighten us more; my opinions can be changed.

I have adhd and was prescribed adderall..while it focuses your mind it does not cause a lack of energy, this same "focus" is what causes a meth head to clean all day..it doesn't actually make them less hyper but controls it

Cocaine may make someone on this earth tired but I've never met them and I've seen plenty of od's to know they all died/suffered from a stimulant overdose

You don't have to believe it because perhaps you don't fully understand how the cannabinoids work and effect you (no offense intended) but there are those who do...and they do effect most people in pretty much the exact same way as with all medications

I think its also important to remember most of the effects from thc in particular are biphasic

Well we do for the most part.....we've been studying cbd for 4 decades for example..for whatever reason a bunch of morons heard about Gupta and it started a craze..most of the cannabinoid talk is like this..gupta..I could rant about him awhile...sorry off topic

I guess it has alot to do with what individual people think of as being high/stoned, etc. and what people are looking for in their high. I just don't believe that today's THC tests can accurately tell us how strong or good the high will be. I've personally experienced this numerous times. A friend used to get buds from a dispensary that tested and labeled all products with THC%. The highs from tested buds did not match up to their THC% numbers. Some of the lowest THC buds produced a much more intense and longer lasting buzz than some of the highest THC% buds. I'm not alone with this, many people I know have repeated the same thing. These THC tests can be very misleading and I don't know anyone who can read a testing profile and accurately predict what kind, how strong, and how long a high will be, with the possible exception of yourself. So are you saying (and I'm not trying to be disrespectful) that if I had a better scientific understanding of terpenes and cannabinoids, I could look at a cannabinoid profile from a THC test and tell accurately how strong it would affect me, what type of feeling I would get from the high, and for how long? And out of curiosity , do you have your cannabis products tested and do you consume and or purchase according to the results of a THC test?

I had posted earlier in the thread that I figured THC alone wasn't the only thing getting you high, it's a combination of many things. As has been pointed out correctly, we don't know enough about this yet.

I figured getting a King Tut advertised at 33% TCH was a good way to hedge my bets though. When I have it tested, even if I only come in at say 27%, I will have an impressive looking lab ticket to go with my pretty jar of weed when I go to the dispensary with it.

Was just reading about the suspicious and questionable Euphoria unlimited stain from bc seeds that is said to be 36% and something special but untill I see video smoke reports I don't believe it. Quantum Kush from TGA tested at 30.6 http://www.tgagenetics.com/images/stories/lab_results/quantum_kush.pdf and even their mickey kush tested at 28.6 Timewreck is not far below. Y Griega supposedly tested at 27.12% and Sincity seeds claims to use a 28+% Kosher Kush from Reserva Privada seeds.

I think something important to consider is that THC levels are not everything when it comes to a high, and even though some bud is great when you first smoke it, it may lack longterm high type appeal.

I'm still chasing an elusive high from the late 90's. Was just called "kind bud" which as far as I know was never a strain name. The bud smelled sweet and amazing, was a great kind of fluffy and sent me into a super happy euphoric dream state for a whole weekend. I've never come close to this high again with Sour Diesel which is all they sell as "qualiy" around me. Sour diesel sure gets me high, but it's a shitty high that lacks a lot imo. The bud might have been bubblegum.

I have read that some malawi has a special physcedelc high and so does Belladona. Hawaiian Snow Is supposed to be special too.

I recently viewed a DEA seizure report on Thai Stick. The highpoint of the THC content was about 12% THC and that point was hit in the mid 70's. (That's when I first tried it)

You will find what you are looking for in the sativa line. Ladrace strains are your best bet. Pure sativa is a psychedelic high and Malawi is one of the best. In Africa it is known as Banana Bud because it is often sold wrapped in banana leaves. The tribal guys call it Elephant Killer. My guess is, if an elephant ate a plant with 10 pounds of bud, well, they might sleep a couple of days.
