Strawberry D-Light

"In the end, 98% or more of the energy going into the grow room gets converted into heat which must be removed one way or another."

I walked in the woods and thought about this and I think there's another part to the equation. Energy in has to equal energy out but a more efficient plant specific light will put out more PAR watts which are absorbed by the plant and used for plant growth. So much of the energy is not converted to heat, the plant is like a battery that stores energy.

This would be different from most of the projects you would work on because there the light is absorbed by people, walls, furniture where it eventually is released as heat - not projects planned specifically to feed plants. Unless you do ventilation for greenhouses, then I apologize for being presumptuous.

I've haven't found the absorption rate for marijuana but plants in general absorb 25% to 75% of sunlight. A horticulture light will give a spectrum where a larger percentage of the light is absorbed by the plants than with CFLs designed for human eyes.

What do you guys think? Do I have something or is my new Launch Box working too well?

Ive read the posts about this light-heat theory I think about 10 times now.. and I'm still not 100% sure if I understand it but from what I think I understand your theory sounds pretty plausible..

But I've been doing some more reading... actually reading some more of your post Hobbes... on strain analysis and favorite strains to grow. Must I say you a extremely thorough in you analysis's and they make for great reading =)

But so I got to thinking about different strains and their individual characteristics and effects on the body, when I thought.. you know there are times where I wish I could have a certain high over another... like an upper high in the morning but a couch lock for after a long day of work. So I started thinking about how I could complete this task..

Going back to the set-up I'm currently working on.. I could probably fit (4) 5 gallon buckets, so I was thinking maybe I could grow 4 different strains? each with its own different characteristics for different times of the day.

But this obviously raised some more questions from me..:

I was planning on starting all my seedlings in a clear 16oz cup (party cup) with a mixture of Peat Moss and Perlite (NO NUTS)

***I had decided to go with organic nutrient rich soil set up rather than hydro chems. Mixture of peat moss, perlite, bone meal, blood meal, dolomite lime, and watered with distilled water with a Tbls. of molasses every other watering.

After the seedlings have rooted themselves in the cups I planned to cut away the cup and transplant them into the nutrient rich soil.

Could I transplant directly from a 16oz cup to a 5gal bucket? Or do I need another medium before I step into that?

Does anyone every put holes in the bottom of their bucket and place a catch dish under it to retain any extra water from watering? or is that just for house plants and flowers ect..?

With the overall life cycle of a photo period plant reaching from 12-16 weeks... maybe more? Do I have to worry about the plant using up all the nutrients in the soil and leaving behind toxic salts that can damage the roots? Do I have to flush the plant every so often to wash away those salts? Do I have to refortify her with nutrients after the flush? I was hoping to try and stay away from chems. but if it a necessity and means the difference between chronic and decent then I'll easily consider using them..

One of the things I kinda liked about the autoflowers was their life cycle was so short 8-9weeks from seed.. that I could transplant it into the nutrient rich soil and not really have to worry about flushing her because I'd be chopping her down around the same time those nutrients would be near depleted and at that point it wouldn't matter. But a photo period would need that flush and possibly to be refortified..

And on another note.. I was looking and reading trying to find the best suitable strains that would give me different highs but obviously all be some heady chronic. I would love to have an absolute couch lock for after work (most likely a heavy indica.. any thoughts?) as well as a super upper for the mornings and times when an up-lifting is needed.. also a good everyday smoke and one other that I haven't really thought about yet..

So I was looking and came up with a few candidates.. lemme know what you think.

Strawberry D-Light = Sagarmatha Seeds (I can't find where to get your Super Strawberry Diesel = Elite.. could you link me by chance? that strain sounds killer)

A-Train = TH Seeds... High Times Top 10 Strains of 2009

Peak 19 = Sagarmatha Seeds

maybe

Kali-Mist = Serious Seeds

Sage n' Sour = TH Seeds

lemme know what you think about the idea and the strains

thanks again for all your help

"Could I transplant directly from a 16oz cup to a 5gal bucket? Or do I need another medium before I step into that?"

Yes. The root ball won't develop as well as it would if you did an intermediate transplant part way through veg but I haven't found too much loss of yield or increase in flower time. It's much easier all around to transplant to a 6" pot when you have to water the cup every day.

.

"Does anyone every put holes in the bottom of their bucket and place a catch dish under it to retain any extra water from watering? or is that just for house plants and flowers ect..?"

I use 12" trays. You can get cheap thin plastic trays but the thick black plastic ones last.

.

"With the overall life cycle of a photo period plant reaching from 12-16 weeks... maybe more? Do I have to worry about the plant using up all the nutrients in the soil and leaving behind toxic salts that can damage the roots?"

Not so long as feed according to directions.

.

"Do I have to flush the plant every so often to wash away those salts?"

I don't until the end of flower.

.

"Do I have to refortify her with nutrients after the flush?"

No.

.

"I was hoping to try and stay away from chems. but if it a necessity and means the difference between chronic and decent then I'll easily consider using them.."

You can get great bud either way, organic or chemical. No need to cross over if you don't want to.

.

"But a photo period would need that flush and possibly to be refortified.."

No flush during veg or flower needed unless you create nutrient problems through improper feeding and PH balancing.

"different highs but obviously all be some heady chronic. I would love to have an absolute couch lock for after work (most likely a heavy indica.. any thoughts?)"

You'll notice that I stay with the same breeders, I've found that picking the breeder is more important than picking the strain. One breeder's White Widow is not the same genetics as the next, different effect characteristics, different growing characteristics.

And it's not just breeding, it's seed production too. Dutch Passion is just butchering DJ Short's Blueberry - mine were terrible and I've read many reviews the same. But always good reviews for DJ Shorts.

The couch lock properties are greatly influenced by the timing of your harvest - go for more amber, fewer cloudy and no clear trichomes. You can get most strains couchlock by going 100% amber trichomes.

The more sedative strains I like (smoking and reports):

Endless Sky - Dr Greenthumb: 42 days flower, 500 g/m2, very very potent indica stone.

Medicine Man - Mr Nice (White Rhino - Greenhouse): powerfull body stone

White Russian - Serious Seeds:
Very strong, long lasting high, more cerebral than knockout. Medicinal plant.

The Flav - (TGA) Subcool: Narcotic. The high is very intense and is reported by smokers as trippy and good for pain relief. Very mind expanding and viual, very much a head high

Trainwreck S1 - Dr Greenthumb would be my first choice of breeder, Greenhouse the second: Effect: Like the name suggests, a real blast. It hits fast, and it hits hard. Stoney on the body, confusing and trippy on the brain. A truly powerful smoke.

Blue Moonshine - DJ Short: The "Blue" version of the "White" family (White Widow, etc). A super potent blueberry Indica, coated with a strong concentration of tall standing trichomes. Produces a very narcotic experience - body high blueberry.

.

"Some other types of after work strains I like are: trippy; opiate dreamy; melow euphoric."

Jack The Ripper - TGA (Subcool)
: High type: Intense, trippy, visual, phase shifting, increased heart rate, heavy crash, increased appetite, pain relief, paranoia

Kali Mist - Serious: up opiate, floating euphoric high.

Jilly Bean - TGA (Subcool): slighly sedative body stone and euphoric, very social. Tastes like Dreamcycles. One of the best reviewed strains recently.

White Widow - Seedsman or Black Widow - Mr Nice: Great for through the day but overindulge and you'll be glued to the couch. Still one of the best. Seedsman will be more sativa and Black Widow more indica.

SSD (~Strawberry D-light) has indica phenos that knock you out of reality. Also look at Soma's NYCD, Refferman's Sour Diesel and Bogs Sour Bubble, or a clone from a dispensary.

.

"a super upper for the mornings and times when an up-lifting is needed.."

Bubblegum - Serious Seeds: Crystal Clear euphoric high.

Flo - DJ Short: unique motivating high; musky grapes.

Green Crack - clone only

Cheese S1 - Big Bhudda or Cheese BX3 - Dank Dairy or Original Cheese - Dr Greenthumb

Pandora's Box - TGA (Subcool): The Cheshire Cat strain. Grin ear to ear and laugh hysterically. (It's replacing Dr Greenthumb's Big Laughing in my garden. I've run Big Laughing over 2 years, great strain - PB will be better)

AK47 - Serious Seeds: Rocket fuel and you are the rocket. Very fast onset of high. Soaring high. Not functional.

F13 - DJ Short: A clear, clean, crisp head of the kindest order.

.

"a good everyday smoke and one other that I haven't really thought about yet."

Kali Mist - TGA
(social with friends);

Bubblegum
- TGA (functional in public);

Big Bang - Greenhouse: sold in Dutch pharmacies for anxiety, good functional strain.

Cotton Candy - Federation: Non drowsy pain relief.

.

Other:

Querkel - TGA (grape knockout strain)

Jack Herer - Sensi: The trait common to all Jack Herer phenotypes is a dazzling double-edged potency - a stratospheric cerebral high underpinned by a breathtaking body-buzz with seismic power. Smokers should be prepared to feel the earth shake beneath their feet - which can be a very pleasant feeling when your head is firmly in the clouds.

Dr Greenthumb has some great strains he's bred and some phenominal feminized seeds from the original clones of legendary clone only strains. Bubba Kush, C99, Chemdawg Kush, and OG Kush. Jazz is a great up strain. Great breeder, look through all of his strains - you can count on top quality genetics and seed production. Your order will be sent twice if not received by you.

Texada Timewarp - PeakSeedsBC: I had 1/3 of a joint when I was living in the Rockies, British Columbia, I was tripping for hours, lost in some kind of time warped dream that melded with reality. It was the strongest - trippiest, mind expanding, lost in dreams - bud I have ever had. I've been waiting for 2 years for Peak to get back in stock, they have the original not the cross that other banks I've found offer. Peak has TT x Blueberry and I may pick that up but I have seeds for lots of strains and I have my heart on TT.

Sour Diesel - clone dispensory

.

You should be able to find all of those strains at these banks:
