street lights hps Hg do they work???

My friend just got some ballast light units that say they need hps ballasts but are Hg lights(mercurylights)anyone have experience,thanks again riuthey say hps balast required but Hg in bubs?????

check with the manufacturer to see it they sell hps bulbs
