Stretching?

Small fan, decent grow light, foil bubble insulation, pots, soil and some basic nutrients will get you a long ways. Good luck and have fun!

It definitely keeps them shorter using the higher Kelvin spectrum. That's partly why I suggested using a Daylight LED bulb. It's probably like 5000k. The Warm and Cool have lower K ratings, so more red. Warm has the lowest K rating.
Yup. I am going to go with 6500k next seed session.

They need more light. I have a plant growing in my living room for fun. It's in a corner that doesn't get much light. I put a 100w equivalent (24 actual watt) daylight LED bulb in a lamp to keep them from stretching and to prevent them from flowering.

I just wanted to update you guys, here is the new setup! I'm pretty sure I recently over watered the one on the far left, I poked some holes in the soil to hopefully help get some oxygen to the roots, but other than that how does it look?

That medium looks like mulch mostly. I'd repot those into gardening soil with 50% perlite for starters so you have good aeration. Even miracle grow will save you if you are strapped on cash. Just need something for it to grow in for the next 2 weeks maybe 3. then transplant into some FFOF. it's like 15 a bag for 12QT.
3 gal pot minimum.

The soil in the pots is MiracleGro... When I want some bigger pots I was thinking about some Smart Pots, I've heard good things but am not 100% sure whether or not I should use them. I'll also definitely look into the FFOF, thanks for the tips!

Damn.. it just looks different. As long as you have decent aeration in their transplant pot. The soil as is looks like it will smother the roots. Try not to over-water. That may be why I'm seeing all those chunks.

Include a wider photo so we can see the light. I presume that you are using a standard lamp fixture with the bulb in it pointed up which will waste most of the light. You want to direct it down towards the plants.

I am using a standard lamp, I was going to get a bendable extension to turn the bulb towards the plants. In the interim I have put a piece of aluminum foil on top of the lampshade to reflect all of the light that is going up back down to the plants.16003629280632004828587496347309.jpg

what is that white fluff and what is that medium both look out of place to me. this is kind of a joke but did you plant them in dog food or last nights leftover curry

Shop clip lights come with a reflector for less than $10 bucks at most stores that sell hardware.

The white fluff is a pipe-cleaner that I am using to tie the plants to a toothpick to help them stay up. I don't know why the soil is so clumpy (it's MiracleGro), it pretty much came out of the bag like that. I'm going to try to water the soil less to see if that helps with the clumps.

What's your plan for bringing them into flower without a grow tent?
I was under the assumption that for them to flower I just had to change the amount of light that they receive, I can always move to them to a dark spot in my house (like a cabinet somewhere) if it is too bright where they are.

it will need to have good air flow and temps and humidity are a factor as well. Wherever you have it. Can't be stagnant air. Too hot or too humid.

I'm just gonna chime in here because no-one has mentioned it, but if your window sill gets a lot of direct sunshine then it will be enough light to grow a pretty healthy plant...if you live somewhere sunny.

The chernobyl I'm currently growing was vegged on a window sill over summer, although I did end up moving it to the other side of the flat most nights for the evening sun. I knew I was going to flower her in a tent under HPS though.

Despite that there are still major flaws in your plan.

Making sure a plant on a window sill is getting 12 hours of darkness is not possible in most situations. This means you will find it very difficult to flower. (unless you can remember to never switch the light on in the room she's in?)

I always use lights for the flowering stage (never less than a few hundred watts) and have her either in a tent or tucked away in a cupboard where no light will disturb her.

Yeah the 12 hours of dark can just be tossing them into a closet, but if the seedlings were stretching that much to begin with they were not getting enough light from the sun, which tells me neither would adult plants in the same area.

I think you may need to look into a light if you want to see anything like a yield worth your time, but I know others have seen success growing in South facing rooms, moving their plants often to keep them in the sunlight. If this is possible for you, then it might yield decently, though it seemed like a lot of work and more of a hobby since the user was home due to covid-19.

If that window was getting enough light would his seedlings have looked like they did initially?

Lol. Probably not, now I've read the post about the 3W LED light. It's easy to forget that newbies often don't know some of the real basics...for the average person they see that houseplants "grow" on any windowsill, so that seems like a reasonable place to put a weed plant.

@ OP - Only direct sunlight, for a good portion of the day, is sufficient for decent growth.

I am not using the 3W LED light, I actually didn't know what wattage it was when I posted the picture of it. That's why I posted the picture of that lamp and asked. The bulb that is in my current set-up is an LED that is used to replace a 150W incandescent (the actual wattage is around 20 I think). I switched because my window did not seem to be giving sufficient sunlight, as they were stretching quite a bit.
