Suggestions for covering a 4'x4' organic grow - Vero 29's or CXB3590's?

Going by this PDF, typical Vero29 should average 36.4Vf at 1.4A, assuming Tj ~50C. 36.4 * 4 = 145.6V. The driver is only good for 143-144V, so I suspect the driver would have to reduce its output to about 1.1A (40W ea). All that said, I have not tested 4 Vero29s on an HLG-185H-C1400 and it may behave differently depending on A or B version.

I think the reason I included that example (Vero29X4 with HLG-185H-C1400) in my post was due to repeated reports by several DIYers that it works, but I should retract that original post until I check if they tested it for full 1.4A current output, in situ and fully warmed up. Sorry for the confusion!

I am running Vero 29s on RSP-320-36, up at 38Vf, working fantastic so far, some people mentioned that it being a CV not CC power supply might reduce the life span of the LEDs? But it is working great so far.

Howard I know, I will be building a 8 cob cxb3590 36v 3500k run at 49 watts at 1400ma in a meter squared. Using 2 HLG-185-1400 drivers my light will be running at 56% efficiency giving me roughly 20 par watts per square foot. The same set up in 4' x 4' would give you 13.75 par watts per square foot. 4 more cobs and another driver would bring you up to 20.62 par watts per square foot. I don't know the math to figure micromols but I think 12 cobs set up the same way would get you close to the numbers you need.
1 if you run hlg-185hc1400b without a dimmer attached you are getting a little over 100% current. That said umol is really easy to figure. If you look at the efficiency spreadsheets by supraspl the umol per driven watt is usually already figured in a column. In cxb3590 3500k CD bins case it's driven at 1.4a which equals 2.62 umol/j.
So 8 of those is 2.62 x48.84x8 or a ppf of 1024 roughly. Note if no dimmer is used on b series v the current output could be slightly higher maybe up to 5% depends on driver. So 1024 umol into a 4x4: area or 1.486 sqm is 689 PPFD before lenses/reflector wall losses. Not to hard really.

What about four in parallel on hlg185h-36. Add a fan to passive sized heatsinks shouldn't run into to much trouble. I would think it would be unlikely that you'd have 2 out of 4 cobs fail before the grower noticed.

The same thing recently occurred to me, so I added the HLG-185H-36A to the driver matching spreadsheet and thread. It would work for CXA3070 and Vero 29.
I was wondering about running the Cobs in Parallel, so this is acceptable then?

What danger is present is the case of cob failure. Say you have 4 cobs in parallel. If one fails for some reason then that cobs current is redistributed to the other three cob. In the case of under driving and optimum cooling the danger isn't real great. If you where pushing the cobs pretty hard say only 2 on the driver to start with then it could get into a dangerous situation. Short answer is I wouldn't worry about running 4 vero29 on hlg185h 36 at all honestly. If you notice one of the cobs not working stop using the light until you get the problem fixed.

I was planning to run 3 actually in parallel per driver.
Can you adjust the current down with a pot?

In that case hlg-150h-36 (a) being built in dimmer pot (b) being external dimmer with 100kohm potentiometer.
That would run 3 vero29/cxa3070 nicely. Personally I'd go for the cxa3070 from Jerry. I'm kinda partial to cree though.
Shipping is a killer from him when buying a small quantity though.

I cant afford the initial investment to buy enough to run them that soft I mean.
Building one strip at a time 8"x 28.75" heatsink, and adding cobs.
I already bought the heatsink, but not exactly sure how to utilize it honerstly.
Ill build more when there is money in my pocket again lol.

What LEDs are you planning on running? Cxa3070 should be pretty reasonable from Jerry.

Yes maybe you should wait until you can buy several more. Also 40 shipping would cuber 8 just as well. Then it would be just as cheap
Yeah, thats why I was going to buy from US seller.
I need the lights now, but will buy more parts and build into one bigger light later.

You can use China Post for $10 but the shipment is not guaranteed. I have never had a problem using that for small shipments, takes ~7 business days lately

If you are going with 3 cobs after all you could use hlg-185h-c1400
Does Jerry have the Vero?
If the 3070 is a better cob I can get those instead
What would you recommend I get with that heatsink I have?
Im not sure if its good for spacing of 3 or 4 honestly?
I can cool it with a 200mm fan

I personally like cree better and performance would be pretty equal at 1.4a under driving further will give the win to the cxa3070. Running harder will put the vero29 ahead.
