Sunglasses in the grow room???

Does anyone else wear sunglasses when dealing with there plants?? I've got a couple of CFL set ups, and find I need to leave a pair of sunny's handy to avoid eye damage...i'm sure I've already done plenty!!

You should try it... they can make the amber/yellow light look quite spectacular!!

hey hetty,i run 2 1000watt badass bulbs and i do put some shades on if im going to be in my rooms for a long period of time the light will hurt your eyes
over time,trust me after 20 years of gorwing i wish i had started useing them sooner,just my opinion.

I don't think I could work in my grow without sunglasses.

Yea a few cfl's aren't going to do much to your eyes. It's when you get into HID lights that it becomes really important. I have an 8x11 room with 6000w and it is waaaaay too bright to try to not wear polarized sunglasses

go vertical and try NOT wearing sunglasses. it becomes mandatory, not for safety but simply so you can see what your doing without constant squintage.

when I take pics with my hps on I put sunglasses in front of my camera so I don't get the hps lines in the pic. Yall know what im talking about.

I need the glasses for the CFL's because I am constantly trying to achieve an inch or just less between leaf and bulb, which means you have to stare pretty much directly at the bulb!! I've had many "black spots" created this way.

I don't want to get into a slanging match, but i'm not sure you fully understood. I don't wear the glasses for looking into the grow room, but only for adjusting the bulb distance. You try starring directly into a 9000 lumens bulb... it's not good

Are you serious? you dont need glasses with fluros bro lol. People run 10000w of hps without glasses ,your lights are weak as piss in comparison.

Yep, I wear my Oakley Oil Rigs when I'm "working" in the flowering cabinet. Sometimes "working" involves just admiring the wonderful developing buds and taking in its sweet smells too. I also wear a baseball cap and keep the brim low to help out with the glare. My flowering cabinet is a smaller one so my heads proximity to the cool-tubed 250W Ceramic Metal Halide is just a couple of feet or so. I could barely do without sunglasses when I used a HPS.. but this CMH is one bright bulb.

Grow lights are super dangerous for your eyes. The UV is high, and like getting lots of sunburn as a kid can cause skin cancer as an adult, cornea damage is accumulative, so you can have eye problems that show up years later. Sunglass help, but the problem is they don't cover UVC, since natural UVC gets filtered by the upper atmosphere and doesn't hit the ground. BUT indoor grow lights can give off UVC, and the sunglasses just let your retina open up wide (because they are dark) so it lets all the UV just rush right in. In some ways, wearing sunglasses can therefore be worse for your eyes.
