Super Closet - 1st Grow BIG BUDDHA Blue Cheese Feminized

Hey all, was going to start one of these journals and keep everyone updated on the progress of my first grow.

I just got off the phone with a supercloset rep, and the closet will be delivered july 22nd or 23rd.

I got the 600w hps and the co2 kit, those who will say I spent too much, I already know your side of the argument and decided that I was willing to spend the money to have it all ready to go asap.:hump:
Stealth is very important to me...almost did not want to start a journal but I know I will need help down the road.

I am planning on doing like 3 of each (my BIG BUDDHA Blue Cheese Feminized and BUDDHA SEEDS WHITE DWARF FEMINIZED) and then maybe one or two of the freebie seeds that they are sending with my order.

The White Dwarf seeds are autoflowering and the blue cheese is not. As soon as I get them to veg I am going to be doing a 20/4 light scheme and continue the 20/4 scheme throughout white dwarf flowering and only adjusting the light (12/12) when the blue cheese is ready to flower.

I hope this does not complicate the process too much, I just realized that I may have trouble if all the plants are taking nutrients from one single body of water because this will keep me from being able to stop nutes and cleanse my white dwarf :-? while still helping my blue cheese get to full potential...
**if anyone has any input on this please reply**

Seeds should be delivered within the next week or so, according to the tracking tool they were sent out today. I spent a little over a hundred dollars and that includes stealth shipping with a tshirt for guaranteed delivery, and also had them leave the seeds in the breeder bags so I can sort them upon arrival. Don't forget the coupon code "420" for 10% discount and to click rollitup.org as a referral :-P

EXPECT PICS AND UPDATES!!

--Next post will probably be when my seeds arrive. Please subscribe and help me with this first grow, I have done a lot of research and I am pretty pumped up. The most popular super closet grower that I know of on this forum was jonnyblunt88 and hopefully I can be as entertaining as he was.. I have a newer, updated version of the SC so hopefully this thing works as well as I am expecting it to.

So. I know its been a few days, but I recieved the seeds from The Attitude Seed Bank in the mail yesterday. Service was fast, and packaging was stealth.

Because I used the "420" coupon code I saved 10% and figured, why not just use that money saved to check the "tshirt option" which gauruntees the shipment gets to you.. if it doesn't, the attitude seed bank will resend your seeds free of charge. My order was upwards of $150.00 so I wanted to make sure I got it!

They also threw in some extra Dinafem seeds for free

Well.. They came in and this is what I got:

-Green 2XL tshirt with lame "Shag Panther" parody.. The quote is even messed up it says 50% of the time, all the time *should say 60% like in anchorman LOL
(i ordered a size large but w/e the tshirt is not important right?)
-package of 10 BigBuddha Blue Cheese femenized seeds
-package of 5 Buddha White Dwarf seeds
-Dinafem Power Kush seed
-Dinafem White Widow seed
-Dinafem Blue Hash seed
-Dinafem Roadrunner seed
*19 seeds total all femenized

All seeds came in legit packaging with very brief instructions and a list of characteristics of the plants.

Supercloset is still on the way... should be delivered on the 22nd or 23rd. Most will cringe when they hear this final price but I know I can make up for the cost before christmas so I am not sweating it too bad.. With 600hps upgrade and automated CO2 and shipping included the closet came to $3,095.00 and hit my bank account 2 days ago.:spew:

Looks like I will be germinating some of these seeds on the 20th or 21st and poppin them in the closet before friday the 25th. I am having second thoughts about what strains I want to start off with. I know the white dwarf will be ready to harvest within 8-10 weeks after germination... I will probably grow all 5 of those seeds right away and use them to get a feel for what I am doing.. the white dwarf seems to be the most durable plants that I have right now so I might as well start with that.

Contemplating doing a screen of green but I might leave that to my 2nd grow. The closet comes with trellis stuff to support the plants so I might try it out and tell you how it goes.

I don't have much to take pics of right now but I might take pics of the seeds and the lame tshirt :P

complete disaster.
I have been gone for 5 weeks and I was hoping for the best and leaving the earliest stages of the grow in my roommate's and gf's hands....I can't blame them but apparently the grow has gone anything but smoothe.

-of the first 9 seeds only 1 sprouted and all others were apparently brown and dead within the rockwool. that 1 sprout grew to about 2" and then died.

-my roommate put 5 more seeds (blue cheese) into the rockwool cubes without ph'ing them and he also put the seeds in upside down.....and the roots are now growing straight out of the hole in the bottom of the cube, which should obviously be at the top of the hole. I have not scrapped the last 5 upside down cubes b/c i am hoping for a miracle.

I am about to plant my last 5 seeds of big bhudda cheese.. hopefully not screwing up this time. can't believe i wasted nearly $100 and 15 seeds and didn't even get out of the germination/sprout stage.

I have to run, life is nuts right now and I barely have time to sleep with all the stuff I have going on with school/work etc.

**************
for the next 5 seeds I plan on soaking the rockwool for 24 hrs and making sure the ph is between 5.5 and 6.5. I will germinate OUTSIDE of the rockwool this time not IN the rockwool. I am still slightly unsure about how much water to use and whether or not I should be using small amounts of nutrients as "baby food" I have heard that pure water will kill seeds.

-part of me is getting really frustrated and i just want a plant that i can clone.. seeds are a pain in the ass.

out for now, be back later

Tuned in. Plain on grow the Blue Cheese as well. Tap phed water will be fine for the seeds. Rockwool is like a sponge and will hold water for a very long time. You want it to be damp not wet. I wouldnt add nutes till you have 2-3 nodes and then start a very low strenth solution. Are you growing in soil or hydro?

growing in hydro and i have pics!!
this is what i have so far at day 5'ish

i am thinking that i will move them up once they have about 2 nodes.
do the plants look stretched out, the first node looks like it will be very high..

looks like the 2nd batch is having trouble too.. So frustrating.. not sure what I am doing wrong..

I soaked rockwool in ph'ed water for like 15hrs, let them dry out a little.. planted the germinated seeds with root down..
had a heating pad under the tray with the flourescent lights on 24hr
temps are around 75-80 in the closet...
kept the cubes fairly moist in the black tray shown with the humidity cover for a while.. watered them with pure ph'ed water and never even had a chance to introduce a small ammount of nutrients b/c they are falling over on themselves already....

is it a possibility that the seeds were not pushed far enough down into the rockwool? they just seemed really tall and couldnt support themselves. The only other possibility is that I overwatered them.. If I had to guess that's what I would blame.

Pics below

I am germinating 6 new seeds, they are bagseeds and probably from a hermi but who knows.. this will be more of a last ditch effort. Im F'ing pissed that I managed to waste $150 worth of topshelf seeds and I have nothing to show for it except a higher elec. bill and wasted rockwool cubes. :?

Wow, What a shitty start.

Most common mistakes are the light is too close and too much water or nutes.
The pictures of the babes in cubes, Those cubes have too much water in them.

I have done this a bunch of times. I have had seedlings do the same thing. They call it falling off. For what reason I don't know.
Anyway, Ph water to 5.0 let it set out over night. remove the cube and set it on a towel for a few minutes. drop your seed in the hole and tear off a small piece and fill the hole. Place the cubes where they will stay between 70° and 84° no need for a dome yet unless thats how you can keep temps stable. don't water the cubes for two days, then just a couple drops right where you planted them. the rockwool is still full of water. in a week you will see sprouts. now every two days water like a teaspoon of water thats Ph to 5.7

Seedlings have enough stored nutrients to last a couple weeks but they must be kept stable, damp and warm about 80° I am talking about the inside of the cube where the root system is forming. You probably got a hygrometer that has a second thermometer, stick it in a cube without a seed and water that cube too. That way you know the root temp. Thats more important then ambient temp.

Your post caught my eye because I was going to get a super closet also but like most others I decided to build my own setup and save the cash. I got two cabs now. Side by side stealth system. One aero one hydroton.

I have learned quite a bit about growing on this forum and glad to return the favor so any questions feel free to ask.

You may like to check out my setup. I put links in my sig below. The dual cab on the far right is current.

Oh, By the way, Welcome to roll it up.

alright, of the 4 seeds that ended up being usable.. 2 of them sprouted and then immediately died the same way the first batch did. I'm at a loss. Next attempt is going to be 5 autoflowering seeds, again ordered from attitude.
ak47/rider which is another autoflowering strain.

i might be switching to dirt this time.. the rockwool hydro thing is just not working out for me.. the only one i have to blame is myself, blah

pics and update on new setup when the seeds come in.
***planned changes***
-store purchased, bottled water only
-measuring temps where root is developing, not just ambient temps
-less water! lower ph!
-no humidity dome, going to use it for clones later
-growing with coco and then putting them into bigger pots
-20/4 lightcycle throughout entire plant life cycle

more to come from the worst grow ever :D

OK, well lets start with your existing rockwool cubes. Toss them. The reason is whats in there that killed you kids is still in there. Your tap is shit man. So is mine.

Personally I don't use rockwool anymore. I found rapid rooter cubes much easier to use because it is easier to tell when they need water. (the cube gets lighter in color)

But no worries, After trial and error I know now how to do it with rockwool.

Tools you need:

Ph meter
PPM meter
hygrometer, (thermometer that has a remote sensor and humidity gage built in}
Seedling heat map or heating pad. something that stays warm. Not hot.

Heres the deal,
I am going to take precautions that may not be needed but will get you plants.

Get a bucket, fill half with tap and half r/o
Measure PPMs you want around 200 or less. If its high add more r/o.
So, lets say you got 150PPM. Now PH the water to 5.0 let it sit overnight.
You do this to dissipate the chlorine before you put the cubes in.

Next day check Ph again, Ph to 5.0 (it probably went up)
Now drop in the cubes (toss an extra one in there) and wait overnight again.

Now its time to remove the cubes and set them on a towel for a few minutes so the excess water can drain out. Tear off a small piece of the cube from the bottom corner, drop your seed in the hole and fill the hole with the piece you tore off.

get a teaspoon of water and pour it right on the top center of the cube where the seed is. OK, now take a wet cube without a seed in it and place the remote sensor from the thermometer in it. This will let you monitor the temp of the cube.

Next you need something to keep them warm. seedling heat mat or a heating pad will work. Place the propagator on the heat mat and check the temps in an hour or so.
You want between 75° and 82° you will probably have to prop the thing up from the heat mat with sticks and put a towel over the mat. Thats what I do to hit 80°

Spray the inside of the dome with water to increase humidity, put it on and you are done. You don't need any light at this point.

Once the seed has broken the surface turn on a light. You don't need 1000 watts. I use a couple small CFL's a foot away. spray the dome every day but don't water.

In about 3 days check the cubes to see how much water evaporated. If you kept the dome wet then not much would have but if they feel light water with a teaspoon at a time. right on top dead center. In 4 or 5 days you should have sprouts.

This is where you got to before but the water was shit or the temps were off.

The first week or two they are the most delicate. This is where you need to check them every day. the stalk will stretch about 3 or four inches, then stop and the roots begin to grow, you will see the first real set of leaf. (not the round ones) single pointers. now I would remove the dome for a couple hours then put it back. lower the CFL's to about 6 inches away. (you do this because you want the right balance, you want enough light so they don't continue to stretch but not so much that you fry them. If you have to use the 1000w make sure it is 4 or 5 feet away)

The next day remove the dome for 12 hours then put it back. The next day if the stalks are fat I would remove the dome altogether.

Once the dome is off water every other day with a teaspoon of the tap/r/o mix Ph at 5.8 150 ppm water. You don't have any leaf to look at so look at the stalks. If they seem flimsy use a prop to hold them up. I use a twist tie. make a loop with one end of the wire to hold them and stick the other end into the cube for support.

This is where most seedlings are lost. I check mine twice a day. I have found them flat on the ground but the stalk still strong enough to send juice so I propped them up and they were fine in a day or so.

You want humidity at there root zone which is done by watering lightly. root temps around 75 to 80° and ambient temps around 80 to 85°

At about three weeks you will have a second set of leaf that have three points. Now you are in the clear. Its time to start thinking about nutrients and lighting. Drop the tap and go r/o with 1/4 strength nutrients for a week keeping Ph at 5.8 then half strength for the rest of veg, Start flower at half strength the second week go full strength then finish the grow at half strength. Flush for two weeks changing water every few days and your done.

LOL now thats a novel.

So here goes the 3rd attempt. I decided to stay true to what I was trying to accomplish and I will be growing these 5 ak47 ryder autoflowering seeds hydroponically!

so.. I followed all the above instructions as closely as possible, the only change is that I am germinating the seeds in a moist paper towel in a cup, and will be placing the germinated seeds into the rockwool with tweasers tonight or tomorrow as soon as any of the seeds pop open and grow a tail.

here's some pics of the setup.

**I am having a hard time stabalizing temps. I wanted to do an experiment and find out how hot this closet gets so I closed the doors, set the house thermostat to 77 and left the HPS going. When I got home.. temps seemed to have stabalized and my root temp was 88F degrees! I am afraid to put the seeds into the rockwool at such a high temp. I opened the doors and the temp is dropping dramatically, a few degrees in just a few minutes. In fact its already down to 80.6F degrees with the HPS light off.

***Will temps up to 88F negatively affect growth and flowering at the later stage when the light is going to be on 20 hrs straight? I will have a co2 system setup by then also.. perhaps that will help with temps?
I bought this closet for the stealth but it looks like I am going to have to spend a significant amount of time staring at my plants with the doors to the closet open! :-|

Day 2

got 4 sprouts total, 1 is lagging behind and 2 are doing very well. i am going to leave the dome on for another 12 hrs or so and then I am going to take it off and raise the plants to the light. I want to water so bad today but I am going to wait until tomorrow.

Congrats,

I replied to your PM.
Just keep in mind plants need both water and oxygen too much water will drown them. I usually give them about 5ml or a teaspoon every other day at this point and thats only if I can see the cubes have dried out some.

i just spout mine in dirt as it is easier then i buy fiarly big rock wool cubes break them in half and lay my plants in them then plant

looks like 2 fell off, 1 is a struggling midget and my allstar plant is front left.
not going to post a bunch of info but seems like the 2 were a little TOO dry this time or maybe just fell off. oh well.

this is getting ridiculous though.. $80 for 5 seeds and only 1 plant lasts over 4 days. FML
so looking foward to working with clones in the future.

the front left plant is now now drooping heavily. cubes seemed really dry. i sprayed downt he entire tray and lightly misted all the cubes, then watered the 1 teaspoon into the middle of the control cube(with thermometer) and the last plant standing.

the temps are fairly low in this pic, this is earlier in the morning but they usually slowly rise throughout the day if ppl are home and the electronics in my room are on (plasma tv, computer, dual monitor setup etc.)

wow.
