Supercropping effects

Hi there.

I am a new grower so experience is obviously not what my bag is filled with here. But i did a test, unintentionally actually, regarding the effects of supercropping. I topped the fifth set of leaves so i had two main stems, and after some weeks while i were attempting to LST them down so they would align better with the canopy, one of them accidentally broke badly. I was aware of supercropping at the time, but i did not plan on using it. I tried to repair it with tape and a broken toothpick, but i didn't o that very well. Which turned out to be a good thing.

This gave me a very clear picture of the benefits of supercropping, and i thought i would share that with other new growers or anyone looking into the effects of supercropping. :weed:

That's probably true. This is a Northern Soul(Northern Light x Skunk#1).
Actually she didn't even seem to mind much even though this was a really bad crack. Here is some pics of how the recovery.

I'm only on my second grow and decided I was going to try it. I'll be honest bending and snapping the insides of my plants didn't feel good lol, but I'm seeing massive growth on the one that I done it to. I have 4 plants all were roughly the same size but I chose one to supercrop. Over the course of 2 weeks I bent and snapped the insides of ever one and man that plant is waaaay ahead of the others. They have all generated the little fat nuckles where I did it and they have all healed nicely. I'm going to see what difference that has made on yield come harvest time

I found a few good guides on the Internet and almost all of them recommend doing it over a period of time while in early veg to avoid it slowing growth too much.

That sounds cool lambert. you have any pics? Yea, im also looking forward to see the difference in yield from the two sides, even though this is just one plant. :weed:

I think it makes good sense that it slows down growth also, since it has to redirect a lot of energy into recovering. But for canopy control that can actually be a pretty good thing i'd say.

I sure do. Now its hard to tell but I supercropped every branch except the main stem. How I chose to do it was bend them around so literally each branch is growing up and around the plant. It's hard to see that in the picture but the one that I supercropped is the second in from the left.
Now nutrients, ph etc is identical for every one yet the one I supercropped has taken off. The 2 second pictures are to show how fast it's growing, i took picture 1 5 am and picture 2 5pm. I'm going to keep each plants yield separate to see if it really has helped that much, n then hopefully next grow I can learn more and do it on all 4.

If your interested in trying something new I am quite interested in VScrogging. Google vscrog set up, I found some awsome looking grows and it's definitely something I want to try. Some guy had set up a V shape frame, had his lights in the middle and quite literally had perfect light spread across the whole plant each side.

20141031_061924.jpg 20141031_061949.jpg I accidentally super cropped this tutankhamen plant the same way. The 3 main stalks almost broke completely off, I had to make a cast. Figured she was a goner, now she is the most resonated of any others. I've never had resin production like this so early. I've already began super cropping everything for my next run:) here's a shot of day 31 12/12

You should take a pic with the light off and flash on, I bet they look lovely! I must add that the resin production on the one I supercropped is noticeably higher than the other 3.

That grow looks really nice! And also a great example of the effects of supercropping. That second plant is really the boss compared to the others.
About the same width just quite a lot higher and denser right? But i guess the height gains also makes sense since the plant puts its energy into the main stem because that is the only one that isn't damaged.
Cool with the 12 hours apart pics. Thats one huge amount of growth! :weed:

VScrogging is really cool yea! It can look awesome. I guess by putting some time into it a little work of art could fairly easily be done. I don't have anything near the space that would be needed for doing that though. I live in a small apartment and my plant is doing her thing in this small box in my living room.

I am really getting into this tough love thing! :fire: I will definitely break my next plant also.

I bend the shiz out of my plants all through veg to make an even canopy. I continue to bend down any dominant colas during the first few weeks of flowering as well. The result is scrog like, minus the cumbersome screen. Everywhere you bend a stem is heals and gets stronger.

It's pretty amazing - you can almost break a branch to the point it is hanging from a thread, and it will heal itself and survive! I thought I ruined plenty a big beautiful branch only to realize how well they can heal themselves.

I like to use masking tape intead of duct tape to mend any branches I get a little too rough with.

All these accidents really turn out to work very well. I guess figuring out how supercropping was invented isn't very hard. :)
That is some nice looking buds! The leaves looks like flat hedgehogs or something :eyesmoke:.
Cool to hear that there is more resin on the supercropped plant than the others.

I can't imagine growing and NOT bending branches. It's an integral part of my style. I can get 6 plants, with a two month veg, under a single 600w to yield well over a #... Before I got into bending and training, I'd be lucky to pull 2oz a plant...Glad to see the OP and everyone else is realizing the benefits of this great technique!

OP- plants looks amazing, keep it up!

It really is amazing that it can heal like that. A completely broken branch just gets a little knuckle where it broke. And all the secondary branches from the broken brach gets one hell of a boost.

I have pretty much the same goal. I actually intended to make this a scrog grow, but i have decided not to do it anyway because i want to see what can be done with just lst. And supercropping ofc but that wasn't part of the original plan

Thanks a lot man! I will definitely keep it up! :)
Sounds awesome! Great yield. I am really looking forward to seeing the benefits in yield also. My results will of course be a bit sketchy since only one of my two main branches is supercropped. But i am pretty sure i will be able to see some difference.
