Supplemental lighting

hello guys and gals. I am not happy with the hoods that I purchased. I am getting a reduced yield due to the fact that my hoods are too small or poorly built to give me the 4x4 spread that I am looking for. The colas at the perimeter of my garden tend to be light and airy. if there was more direct light you can see that the potential for a bigger thicker bud is there. The colas in the center tend to be much tighter and bigger. The first pic is the hood that I have and measures 18" x 20" The second pic is a thunder sunmax and measures 37" x 27.5". Both have 6" vents. The price of the sun max hoods are 130.00 each. I need 2. I run 600w hps/mh ballasts. My question is. To take care of this problem Would you upgrade the hoods, add led UFO's or just add some cfls of some sort? It seems like the larger hoods would make a big difference but would it be better to spend the 260-300 dollars on more lights or upgrading the reflectors?
What I have laying around ready to use now is 2 250w metal halide ballasts and fixtures @ a temperature of 6500k which I know is ok for vegging but would it help just to give the extra light where its missing during flower? I also have 23 watt cfls @ 2200k temperature. I have 3 fixtures set up to run 4 23 watt cfls each for a total of 12 bulbs. For what i have laying around now, is it better to run the 2200k CFL's or the 6500k 250 watt metal halides for supplemental lighting.
