pretty simple question. once i switch to 12/12 should i continue with veg. nutes until the first flowers show or switch nutes when i switch the light cycle?

depends what nutes you are using but normally its veg feed up until 2weeks 12/12

the more nitrogen when switching the longer it will take to show sex... 2 clones one started bloom nutes 2 weeks b4 12\12 other veg nutes til 2 weeks past 12\12........ # 1 showed sex in 6 days and finished in 65 days other one took 15 days to ahow sex and 80 days to finish

i did the experiment about 9 months ago

best to stop feeding and flush 2 weeks b4 switching to 12 12 then start in with the bloom nutes

i also switch to 18\6 hps 2 weeks b4 12\12

i would use the flower nutes the day after the switch

as a precautionary i would use a drop or two of the veg nutes with the flower nutes just incase they are missing traces of what they need in the veg nutes...

after a week of that use straight flower nutes...if u see any deficiencies continue adding a little veg nutes till its gone

always worked for me and happy to help

the first two weeks after you change to 12/12 is called preflowering and the plants are still growing sometimes i add some bloom nutes in week 2. but i never go over half strength anyway until i get to at least week5 of 12/12 anyway.they need the extra nitrogen at the beginning of flowering to boost all the new growth thats exploding . a lack of nitrogen at the beginning will decrease your yield and if severe you will lose foliage. also a little spray with epsom salts in wk 3 or 4 will do good and avoid mg deficency.

if you have a 24 hour dark period before switching this will almost eliminate pre-flower period...

no it will help them to show sex quicker but the preflower period is when the plant grows into flowering mode (so to speak) its a final surge of vegetative growth before it starts to concentrate on flowers

hmm some conflicting ideas here.. seems like it is personal preference.. I havent ever tried waiting with the flower nutes but I grow hydroponically and use veg ratios all the way until the day when I think the plant is as big as I want it before going into flower phase.. then for a week I give it transitional ratios --> 2-2-2 NPK each day decreasing photoperiod.. usually plants start pre-flowering during this week.. then go to full flower ratios a day or two before 12/12 is reached.. then about 4 days after 12/12 I switch from mh to hps light. seems to always work great.. I guess though it depends on what you expect out of the strains you have.. good luck!

thanks for all the input guys. i've seen in some journals a nitrogen diff. show up early in flower which raised the question.
i think i'll go with the recipe listed on the 3lbs.com site with a mix of grow and bloom ej for maybe a week or or until i see some flowering and cut out the grow then. here's the bloom page http://the3lb.com/2007/08/19/earth-juice-recipes-pt-3-bloom/ i mentioned. sound like a good plan?

dry but that doesnt mean that just by doing this you'll get it, its not like a holy grail for a gram a watt, everything has to be right.

I run straight Veg nutes until I switch lights . When I switch light I change nutes to a 0-3- 2 ratio to slow down nitrogen and introduce phosphorus. On week five of flower I give straight potassium once bi- weekly and then end with a flush . This has worked well for me for many years .
