T-5 vs 1000 hps

Just curious, would anyone happen to know how the T-5's compare with 1000 w HPS? If I have one 1000w HPS light per plant, how many 4 foot fixtures each housing 4 T-5's would be required per plant to equal the same yield?

Furthermore, could you surround the plants with the T-5s hanging vertically? The reason I ask is because I have the HPS light hanging vertically between the plants and would like to do the same with the T5s in order to get the light to the bottom branches and make use of the entire circumference rather than using shields. This could mean that I would have to hang 2 light fixtures back to back or find some without a fixture, just the bulbs.

I grow my plants 5 feet tall. Thanks in advance.

Your idea would be fine its called " supplemental lighting" people use HPS in conjunction with LED's , CFL's and T-5's
I veg with a 4 foot t-5 and I flower with a 1000W HPS this year however I am going to use my T5 as well as my HPS.

I'm using one 400W MH and three 250W HPS in a closet that measures 2X4X8, this will be used from veg to flowering. I grow seedlings out in a Phototron, modified with another 400W MH and a small fan. All organic. I use 5-gallon buckets when they get big enough to transplant. Does anyone know just how dank and how much my crop may yield under these few descriptors?

I use my t-5's for side lighting much like you propose, only different,i use a 600 hps up top with my tree plant in a corner, both walls have white panda plastic on them, the other 2 sides of the tree is where i use the t-5's at,i hang the 8 bulb 4 ft units on each open side of the tree & the panda plastic reflects back.

I also used them for side lighting on a 4x8 flood table with a very dense canopy,on that application i wasnt real impressed with the penetration, using them on the tree works good but on a 4 ft wide table they only penetrate about 12 inches with enough light to help, after 12 inches the penetration is extremely weak,i kept the bulbs 1/2 inch from the plants too.

Im not impressed at all with any of my t-5 units, truth be told is that are not much different vs a standard t-12 .shop light,i use the 12,s too for veg & they work excellent.

Ok, thanks for jumping right in here and giving me what I needed to hear, guys! I will use my t8s for vegging and not bother with t5s for budding.
