Hi I was wondering if when putting one of these t5 tubes in my box wether or not I should keep the tube cove on or take it off so that just the bulb is exposed. will i lose lumens or light penetration if I keep it on?59569big.jpg

Leaving it on to protect the bulb from some humidity and it definitely helps if you splash anything around the light.
safety first!

how many watts per that fixture?
how much did it cost?
A 4 bulb 95 watt T5 1'x 20" fixture is usually 60-75 bucks with bulbs.
I use them with yoyo's hangers and they are a breeze to raise and lower.

Good Idea thats why I was afraid to take it off. That one fixture cost me $15 with the bulb 3000k. 13w t5. says 1000 lumens. I would love to have a thicker set up however Im using a box with the dimensions 30'Hx16'Wx14'Deep so its a little bit tricky to get lights in there. I have 2 ladies that are already filling it up quite nicley and are getting pressed for room as far as width goes. Thanks for your quick reply Dog!

I tend to disagree, removing the cover/ diffuser allows every single lumen access to those leaves, and baby those plants never get enough light, most growers raise the lights come watering time, why not you...? some even smear some Vaseline on the pins to avoid any humidity, for a tighter more positive join, avoid the 13w tube... standard T5 grow is the 54w tube, thats if you want yield, with 6-8 tubes on a rack, hung from chains adjusted daily

The problem is that im using a box with 30'x16'x12' inches dimensions. so I already have lights in the top of the box in the form of cfls, however im using that tube fixture to run up the sides of my box so that it can help not only pump more lumens inside of the box but also help light exposure get to the areas of the plants which are being slightly shaded by my top set of leaves.

My issue is that i have 2 in that box and they are getting cramped as far as width goes, hieght no problem but some of the bigger leaves are touching the sides of the box and I was worried that the heat produced from the exposed bulb would be a horrible thing to be touching one of the leaves. with the cover on it, the heat is almost 100% eliminated.
