Taking quality bud pics with your phone

It is really a fairly simple process. I have an iPhone but I assume the Android can do the same
My setup is cheap and all the items were laying around my house. Maybe someday I will upgrade.

You will need the following:
Flat Black background
Two lights
Small piece of cardboard
Straight pin

I personally use the top of my black stove. Then I put a piece of flat black construction paper behind where the bud will be photographed. I use a light on each side the bud. The pin is stuck through the cardboard and the bud is stuck onto the end of it.

I open the camera on the iPhone and zoom to 5x (full zoom on iPhone 13). I then rest the phone on the top of the stove for steadiness. I move the phone until the bud is focused and snap!!!


I then edit the photo in the iPhone photo editor. I crop it if necessary. I add level 50 to Blackpoint which helps darken the background even more. I also use Sharpen at level 50.


As soon as I harvest I will get more pictures.

Very nice. Do you have any advice on taking pictures of live flowers on iPhone?

Ive found the best photos on my phone are taken using the pro controls. Controlling the shutter speed, iso and white balance 100% helps. Particularly when still in tent/ grow space. Additionally controlling the focus as well to a center focus vs multiple. Im android, im sure somewhere in that I-crap allows you to mess with those settings.

Make sure you've killed all fans/ air movement for the photos. If you need to or can, attach some sort of apparatus to the stem so it reduces the movement and sway. If your attempting to take a macro photo then you need everything as still as possible. Use pro controls.

I like the level of detail the macro setting on my Android gives but depth of field could be better as well as addition of supplemental lighting. The above pic is ambient lighting as opposed to phone flash as below.

Imo iPhone cameras are in a different league to android cameras which are pretty poor in bright conditions like a tent.

I just upgraded my phone. Been using my phone for my pictures for years. Excited to take my first pix with this new camera.

Haven’t figured that one out yet. If anyone has tips please speak up

EDIT: other than just zooming to about 3 on the iPhone and focusing before shooting. Here’s an example. Will try some different camera settings

Basic rules. Don't use digital zoom. Don't rely on flash. Use a macro mode.

May hold true for basic point and shooting, but dig into the settings, especially pro mode and its a pretty level playing field, granted not ALL androids are created equally dissimilar to iStuff. My experience with that is only of the "iphone killer" models, Galaxys, Pixels etc.

Lighting and stability are key for sharp image's, a tripod is essential for serious pics imo.

With pro settings you can alter the white colour of light and exposure to suit a tent better.

For better depth of field a telephoto lense zoomed in gives a more natural looking image.

Its been a long time but i used to do a little 35mm photography, not trich pics.

Don’t forget to wipe your lens!!
