Tall plants but not real bushy!! Help

Ok, so I am a first time grower.

I have 3 plants that are about 3 weeks old.

Plant 1 - 4.5 inches tall. It only has 4 nodes.

Plant 2 - 4 inches tall. It has 3 nodes, but produces really big leaves. It's about 8 inches wide with a pretty thick stem.

Plant 3 - 4.5 inches tall. It's just now starting it's 3rd node. It's the least bushy of all three plants.

Do these sound like good plants? Or should I be aiming for shorter, bushier plants?

Any suggestions?

Cut off the top.....in one week you gonna have 2-3 new tops....I was scared to do it and now I have tall sticks with a few buds....dont be affraid and cut the top off....it will grow 2-3 new tops...than wait till you have like 3-4 flors on the new tops and than top again and again......

Sounds good to me. Heres a pic of mine at 3 weeks. Has about same characteristics as yours. The second photo is 2 1/2 weeks later

First time I wouldn't. Plus that wasn't the question he was asking.

Also, a shorter bushier plant would be indica dominant. So it depends on your strains, if its bagseed, its a gamble. But if you want tall and skinny get sativa traits.
Always purchase seeds from a seedback, it pays off in the end, you know what your getting, especially for the first time grower, you know about when it finishes, you know about how tall it gets, and THC content, etc...

Ya, this was bag seed so I'm not sure what strain they are or anything.

Can you be more specific on cutting off the tops though. It sounds easy enough, I just don't want to screw up. You just cut the top set of leaves off?

tie down the tops below horizon of trunk. set of nodes will produce 2 side branches that will grow str8 up. this will make a wide bushy multitop plant........ or u could not tie down the main top. wait 4 side branches 2 grow out and tie them down. same scenario as the 1st option. or do a combination of the both, which is wat i do.....

that causes so much stress to your plants though. so instead of producin one big nug ull have multiple tiny ones resulting in a loss of yield...

but u can easily train sativas to be bushy. and sativas grow faster. so with sativas u can have a tall bushy plant...

You should probably read UB's thread about topping and check out his pics. You'll realize he doesn't get 4 tiny colas.
