Tall strain in SOG?

I was looking at nirvana's Full moon strain. I was just wondering if height is a problem in a sea of green grow? I have never done a SOG. I know before being an indoor grower height was an issue, but will it be with me cutting the mother often? and will clones grow strong and be able to bud fast enough to keep a fairly even canopy?

Thanks man. I have read a book on growing, which included soging, they just never touched on strained for sog. Also have successfully cloned in the past. I will read that thread now. I was thinking about changing strain just cause i want a fast budding plant, which full moon isnt.

Technically ANY strain will work in an SoG. Mostly height will not be a problem as you flower straight from clone. How and when you cut the mom has very litttle to do with anything. It is about how tall your clones start at and how much stretch the genetics will make it go for. I am running Tahoe OG in SoG, and it tends to be a tall leggy plant but rarely goes over one metre when cut at about 15 cm as clone. If height does become an issue which I doubt, cut your clones shorter. I asked a bunch of guys what their favourites are. Here's the thread:

Ok thanks. My worry was that the canopy would vary too much, and the newer clones wouldnt get as much light. But thinking about it, it wont be that big of a difference, and new clones wont need as much light. I dont think it will be an issue. Just curious. I was looking at AK48 for a quick budding plant. Im basically sticking with nirvana, the stick with what you know knowledge.

OK I have to say it is a bit tricky with just one lamp. The first week of stretch is MENTAL. I use two tables, each with a 600W HPS. I set them up kinda diagonally so the overlap hits the part where the low 'fresh' clones come in, so that spot is technically brightest. After week 4 the stretch relaxes a lot. So your canopy will depend on your chosen cycle, a 2-week rotation can be bit of a bitch to be true. 4 week rotation is a lot more manageable. In a 2-week rotation on an 8-week strain, you will have 4 canopies so to speak.

There are many other ways to go perpetual, I am personally probably not going to do SoG for very much longer. Guys like Mycomaster have perpetual crops going using LST which has been giving them excellent results. More than one way to skin a cat really. I like the LST'd plants, huge fat monster colas instead of a ton of stripped-down sticks with golfballs on top. And the whole LST thing makes for a nice multi-strain setup too. Have a look through this ENTIRE thread. If you don't come away feeling super-inspired, you don't like weed ;) There is some of the BEST bud-porn available on this planet in there, and there are very good pics of his vegging area, how he trains, etc etc...

I have done LST in the past with good results. But im looking to keep a continuous grow going, and really only have a 4x4 grow tent to use for budding. Got to keep it small. So only 1 or two plants out of the tent.

Myco's not exactly got a basement to work with either... go have a look, I really think you will find it highly inspiring ;)

That's more than a fair amount of lighting for keeping your own perpetual grow going mate! All the best with it, really rocking to always have your OWN dank!

hell yeah man, thanks. I figured it would be enough light, i have gotten more then 4 ozs off one plant, LSTing with CFLs. And cropped plenty from just 1 400w. Figured the extra 400 would really increase density. Thanks for all the info.
