dude the taproot goes down. Any other way just causes stress. You dont want stress nor is there any problem so far with giving them the good life.

yea hes a douche- taproot goes down, unless all the times ive grown my root did a u turn and came out of the soil and died....without me knowing...yea

It doesn't matter which direction the taproot is facing. It's going to grow down out and across regardless...

Right. It doesn't matter. The tap root knows which way to go. It can cause your plant to take a tad bit longer to sprout sence it has to change direction. I wouldn't call it stressing it. This probably happens in nature all the time. The plant isn't dropping seeds in such a way that the seed will crack with the tap root facing down.
