Look, I can't pick a place in Kansas 5 hours away from something interesting. It's less than 5 hours from any point in the state to get out of the state even. A word from someone who knows what you're talking about: It doesn't have to be paved to be interesting.
I live in SW Kansas, so if you were going to Kansas City, Missouri, it would take you about 6+ hours to get there no matter which route you took. It's 20 minutes to CO from here and 30 to OK. I know what I'm talking about.
KCMO is not the only interesting place in KS area. Depending on your exact location in SW KS, it shouldn't take too much more than 5 hours to get to wichita.
