Im not sure where to get the exact thing you want but im pretty sure what you want is something to protect you from fire incase of overheating,is this right,if so home depot sells just the thing,i just bought 10 of them but my room's are not in my home & i wont be going there till monday.
Anyhow the device i speak of is a combo surge supressor/voltage supresser,it senses overheated or shorted out lines & breaks contact by frying a transistor board inside the unit,the unit will not work again once this happens.
They are only $15 each & are backed with a $50,000 gaurantee to gaurd against fire due to overheated lines,i just looked on home depots web site & they ae not showing it,on monday night i'll know the name of these units & post it for you.

Does anyone know where to buy a switch that will turn off an HPS if the temp gets too high?
I have seen switches that turn fans on at a certain temp. This is kind of the opposite for safety reasons.
I put a safety cut-out in my clone cabinet that might be what you're looking for. There are many types but you need one that will either open up and stay that way until you reset it manually OR you should look for one that has a wide differential (the difference between cut-in and cut-out). You dont want to shut down your lights when it gets to 100 (or what ever you select) and then have it come back on when the temp drops 2 degrees. This one has an adjustable 3-12 degree differential so you can set it to shut down at say 100fah and it won't come back on until 88 fah. No short cycling.

NO....it's easy if you have a basic understanding of electrical wiring. I like them for 2 reasons.....they have a remote bulb so you can mount the control outside of the grow cabinet (if that's what you're using this for), and the contacts are rated to carry the current of the lights (no need for a transformer, relays, etc). My set up is simple......a time clock, a hi-temp cut-out and 8 plugs. 4 of the plugs are wired through the time clock and then through the cut-out (for the lighting), and 4 of the plugs are hot all the time (used for air and water pumps). Just make sure you break the power TO the lights (coming FROM the timeclock) and not the power TO the timeclock.

I know this is not exactly what your looking for but i thought they were a really safe thing to have,i went to my site this morning & got the name brand of the units,here's a link to them.

Hey panhead....I think he is looking for something different. He wants to shut the lighting down if it gets too hot. Those surge strips are meant to reduce the risk of an electrical surge.

It comes with a remote sensor wire, and a temp shut off. It is suppose to protect reptile terrariums from overheating the reptiles. It will work for the amps and wattage of the lights I am using. Costs about $30.
I don't want to hardwire things as I am still trying to find the best setup.
