Temperature is below 50 at night

Does anyone know how my girls can be affected if the temp is around 50 at night but 75 plus in the day?

leaves will turn purple, might want to think about a fish tank heater for the res. should be fine.

it will stunt them if res temps get below 60.

what temp should my reservoir be? ..

50 is cool, I would like it a little warmer, like 55. If you water is under 50 I think you might have problems. 65-70 for the water is good...Good luck JR

I get my best growth with res temps in the 50s. Advanced Nutrients recommends 54-58 degrees. Ive had res temps down in the 40s with no slowdown in growth.

One thing you don't mention is if you're speaking of res temp or room temp. I had this issue with room temp but not res temp. My solution was to buy a small heater fan from harbor freight to run for a few hours at night. I just put it on a timer and it bumps the room temp to between 70-75.

If it's res temp then I'd consider what someone else suggested and get an aquarium heater.

Yeah I freaked when my temps got as low as 58 but the plants didnt seem to mind it..

Pets Mart & Petco sell those aquarium heater wands for about 15 bones.

I have some plants that are about a week away from harvest,my temps are low also.the lowest I have had was 1 nite at 51 deg. but it has been between 55 to 58 for some time now and yes your leaves will turn purple,I have plants in soil and hydro and they are growing just fine so far but I plan on getting a heater fan I seen at walmart to keep my temps up

when rez temps are 58 and below the water can have more o2 saturated in it.

wow, maybe I better get one of the college fridges and setup a chiller. I'd never be able to get it that low in my setup.

the leaves on my ladies curled when i threw them in the basement, but they got over the shock and are used to the cold. the leaves arent as leathery, though...

Really, when I emailed them they told me this.

Reservoir temperature should be kept between 66-68 F (19-20 C) as this will prevent bacterial and fungal growth and prevent root rot from taking hold.

I went with a upper and lower res for my F&D lava rock budding system for several reasons. One of the reasons is where I'm at it gets 50 below zero at times and it's easier to keep the res at a proper temp if it's not sitting on the floor. I keep the res separated from the grow and I keep the room at 69 degrees F. I have never tested the res with a thermometer but I go by touch. Not warm but not cold, but to cold for a bath. I use the lower res so I can get away with using cheap timers for a 1/2 hour cycle. I use an electronic valve thats set to the head of the table, opposite the drain to water and it takes 20 minutes to fill the lower res and 10 minutes to fill the table. Another reason, among many, I'm starting to get blind spots in my retinas so I separated my grow from my work area. I know this has nothing to do with water temps but be sure you have a proper pair of shades when you are working around 1000/w lighting. Don't trust ordinary sun glasses.

Below 50 is certainly going to slow growth.

Aquarium thermometers only cost a few bucks, the nice digital ones cost $8. Pretty cheap investment if you ask me. Pet Smart has the digital ones, all my hydro stuff uses them. I regulate all my res temps to 60F, my particular strain grows much denser when the res is kept cooler, but the buds are bigger and fluffier when the temps were higher in the 70f range.

The temp fluctuation should be no more than ten degrees F, so if you keep it at 75-76 F your low should be no lower than 65-66 F.

You could run your lights at night and let your plants sleep during the day when it's not so chilly.

So when it gets cold at night, you'll have your HPS keeping your plants warm.
