Im having some trouble heating up my grow room whilst the flourescents are on.. night schedule is ideal at 65 degrees but temps are pretty much the same with the lights on since the flourescents produce no heat.. ill only be using them for the first 2 weeks for seedlings so could i turn off the fan whilst the lights are on? or do they still need the fan blowin on them at beggining stages of the plants life? I think it would raise the temps a bit during the light schedule.. please get back to me thanks..

whats your setup like?

mine was running a bit low, not as low as that but maybe around 72, i'm growing in an old wardrobe so i added 2 more CFLs and wrapped a few brankets around the wardrobe to insulate it, runs at 80ish now, hope this helps

with seedlings, it's especially important to have an oscillating fan moving air around which imitates the wind outside and helps to strengthen the stems, and strong stems are important for supporting vegetative growth and bud development. turning off the fan at lights out shouldn't be a problem, but i wouldn't recommend it. i would definitely keep the fan running during lights on so that there are no stagnant pockets of warm stale air hanging around. also, your "day" temps should be, at the very least, 10 degrees higher than your "night" temps, so if your day temps are the same as your night temps, you're going to have a very slow grow. hope this helps!

I have a 4x4x6 grow tent, 400w dual spectrum hps, 2x 18w gro lux flourescents, 1 extractor fan and a fan for circulation.. Do you think that i shud sack the t8's and put them straight under the hps when they breack the soil? that wud raise the temps wouldnt it.. And the seedlings would most probably grow faster aswell wouldnt they?
get back to me thanks

im doing the same thing man!.. "floros for my seedlings for 2 weeks"...i have a space heater with a thermostat set to 70 so it never gets colder than that!..with my floros on it gets about 73-75...i keep a fan blowing on them 24/7 not only for air circulation in the room but to keep the plants blowing around, makes for a stronger stock later in life! hope this helps! :D

no need for the hps now!..if u turned that on u wouldnt be able to get the light close enough without it getting too hot therfor ur plants will strech for the light!..just keep the floros for a couple weeks...wait for a coupld nodes atleast..then kick on the hps...rite now u should be able to pretty much put ur floros not even an inch from the seedlings!:peace:

Ok thanks, but.. even though i will probably benefit from the hps temps wise, i shud stick wid the floros for the first 2 weeks and jus let the temps stay at 65?.. i alredy hav a heater in there 24/7, havin the hps i would need to run the heater during the light schedule thus save money in that respect.. then put a timer on it so that the heater kicks in only during the night schedule and turns off wen the lamp turns on (i think the temps will be like 75-80 with the hps on, then it would be like 65 when its off.. understand what i meen?

yesir i understand!...dude keep the floros for now...like i mentiond in the post above, ur plants will strech if u hook up the hps now...if i were u i would invest ina heater hooked up to a thermostat!..that way u dont even need a timer!...set the thing to 65 and it shouldnt ever turn on in the day time!....mine is set to 70 i dont like it gettin too cold at night!..but my last grown..i set the night temps down to 65 for the last 2 weeks of flowering and my buds turned pink/purple/blue all kinds of crazy colors!..it was pretty cool,i'll prob do it again too! :D some advice though,u should kick up that heater atleast for the day time!...get it up to atleast 70 degrees day temp while u usein the floros!

Right i have my temps stable at 73-76 whilst my floros are on.. the problem is i wont be able to get inside the tent everyday to change the thermostat to fit the dark period... should i jus forget about my night period wid the floros and have them on 24 hours? then in a couple of weeks when i get my hps in the jus change it to 18/6 for normal vegging? I fink i will do this but i need a heads up anyways thanks.

And im also presuming that having the lights on 24/7 the temperature shud be 75 degrees 24/7, correct?
