Tent booster

Got another project about to start! This one is for my brother. I'll start with a little back story.

My younger brother by 4 years, but has been bigger than me since I was 5. He's 6-6 now, I think. I'm just your average Joe, 6'. Anyways, my big little brother has some health issues. He just turned 39, and has been on dialysis for 10 years already. Kidneys are shot, he can't even piss in his sip!

He's been known to pass out randomly, and at 6-6, that's a long way to fall. His tent is only 24x24x55, so he needs to bend down a lot. Not a good combo.

Last few weeks he's been talking about getting another tent, but he doesn't have the room. So I grabbed some 2x4's and some particle board from the free wood bin, and got to drawing.

I recently built something similar for my step son to keep his hydro res under his short tent.

Link to that build

Lost my drafting stuff, so I made a set

I used the same concept, but I plan on making a soundproof compartment for the exhaust fan and ducting.

Should be starting this week

Did a quick drawing of the lower framing. I'll change the back right corner when I work on the vent chimney.

And now I'm thinking two equal size doors with a removable mullion. This way he can do whatever he wants down there and be able to remove it without worry. He mentioned wanting do do a living soil bed in there. I think I can find two tubs 22"×22" that would work. He can move them from the bottom to the top like a pizza oven.

A little modification. I went to his place, his plants are torched. I think he just discovered the dimmer knob on his xs1500. After doing the calculations, he needs more head hight.

Tent 55"
light. - 6"
Plant. - 24
Light gap - 18
--------------------------
Pot. 7"

So my plan now is to cut out the bottom of the tent, and build a shelf inside the cabinet for a sip to sit in. He won't need all the head room in the cabinet with just a few 3' t-5's in there. There should be enough room to veg the next sip in the cabinet to just have the tent in constant flower.

Drawings to come, then we build. You know how ir goes, measure 40 times, draw it out, still fuck it up, go back to lowes anyways.

Slowly coming together, trying to find time to work on it. Here's a few pics of the build so far.

Glued and screwed. Stay tuned for further developments
There is an app called photon I think for full spec led it’s like 5$ but it had a par reading using you phones sensors an camera. Gives a goose idea of par reading from light I use it and is pretty damn accurate according to the responses from my plants!

Little more done tonight. Just one more piece to support the vent stack. Waiting on a measurement from my brother tomorrow. Then we can put the floors and top on. Might go grab a sheet of 5mm plywood just to cut down on weight. I'm an electrician by trade, so everything we build needs to be able to hold up a transformer, or my ass when it's break time.

I found a craftsmen tote at lowes that fits perfectly. I'll be documenting the sip build here as well once the cabinet is finished. I'm also starting a new veg cabinet build, I'll post a link to that once I get it rolling.

My wife suggested I make a little cubby under where the charcoal filter sits for slim's snacky cakes and cheezy poofs.

Started work on the vent stack. Went to lowes and found that 4" duct fittings are Madd expensive. So I picked up a 6" duct collar and decided to build the ducting out of plywood on the inside of the vent stack. Basically an L shape soffit that will combine the exhaust of the cabinet and the tent into 1 6" fan.

Should be finishing up the building part, and start caulking and painting tomorrow.

Everybody likes to think pot heads are so stupid. I'd like to see your average straight laced paper pusher do bong rips all day and not fuck up math with fractions in your head while running up and down stairs from the basement to the freezing cold garage not forgetting anything except a tape measure and pencil. Let alone work the power tools

Nice build and very thought to help out your brother. Subbed up to see how this goes.
It’s nice to meet a fully functioning pot head / electrician. Most of the younger guys will take a couple rips and they are done for the day. I bet we could make a heck of a team on jobs.
Thank you! I'm hoping people with a short tent might catch a spark of inspiration. Setting up a grow is fun. Unboxing lights, fans. I feel the need to modify factory stuff. Like the borg, all things amazon will be assimilated.

I'm medically retired from a heart transplant now, but I'd dust off the linesmans and the jeans with the frayed pocket from my tape measure. Let's build some shit!

As an electrician, I do my best work in the dark. Ask my wife

Rest of the pieces are cut, and joints are caulked. I'll make a drawing of the vent stack if anyone wants one, but it's pretty self explanatory. I can't put the back on, or else it won't fit out of my basement door lol. The back is only 1/4 inch. I was laying in bed going to sleep when it just dawned on me. Geeze, I wonder if that piece of crap is going to fit through the basement door? I shot up like the undertaker after a tag team clothes line, and flew downstairs frantically searching for a tape measure. Had to go out in the cold ass garage in my underwear, but I found it. I have to take the trim off the door casing, but it will just fit. I mean, if a screw head pokes out it's not going through. Then called slim to make his fat ass measure his doors there. 36" there. Thank God.

Measure your doors before you build shit so you don't wind up in your 15°f garage in your boxer briefs at 2am looking for 1 of 4 tape measures you just saw.

Priming and painting tonight. Might take a few coats. I'll pop back when it's painted, then we search for doors.

All painted. Just have to cut out the 2 4" exhaust holes for the tent and cabinet, and install the 6" duct collar and fan mount inside the vent stack. I think we're just going with plywood doors until I find something better.

There was a gash in the side of a 2x4 I didn't notice. Rather than fill it in, I painted it orange. I'm happy with it. Slim will probably cream his pants lol

Doors are done and painted. Used some scrap pieces off a pallet to strengthen the hinges. The top door folds down to access the sip overflow, and also doubles as a shelf.

I couldn't leave him without lights for the bottom, so I snagged a 4 pack of shop lights on cyber Monday. He can always add more, but he won't need much to slow grow while the plant up top does its thing.

When slim was 5 or 6, I came home from school one day and he's making a mess with leftover taco stuff from the previous nights dinner. He asks me if I want a Tico taco. Wtf is a Tico taco. Nobody knows. But my wife is going to paint "slim's Tico tacos" with a menu on the inside of the doors lol. We should be setting it up monday.

My brother is finally moved into his new place. I'm going to give him a week to get settled, then drop the cabinet off. I might even be a nice guy and get a cookies gelato started for him in his new sip.

Still dreading bringing it upstairs and taking the door apart. that was so stupid of me :wall:bongsmilie
I'm going to have so much room for activities once I get it out

Nice sentiment! I'm sure your bro will appreciate the effort. Plus, as you know, growing can be very therapeutic when you need to put your mind into focus. I know that I have completely forgotten about problems when I'm working around my plants or in my garden. Good job, man!
