Tent for Trimming

Rollitup Team,

Looking for advice on a tenting solution today.
  • I'd like to carbon filter the space I use for trimming, bagging, and any other general prep. Apartment with a zero-smell tolerance.
  • Looking for a tent because odor-sealing my prep room is not an option.
  • My space is 8'x9'.
  • I found this Gorilla Tent sized 8x8 which is perfect: http://gorillagrowtent.com/product/lite-line-88-grow-tent-packages/
Grow tents like this Gorilla are designed for, well, growing. I won't be growing in this tent, so I'm wondering if there's a more cost-effective option that fits my must-haves:
  • Leak-proof.
  • Good venting: something that's easy to use with a carbon filter.
  • Easy to use: this means no DIY and no tools, unless it's rock-nuts simple I guess, but I don’t really trust myself to build something free of odor leaks.
  • Collapsable: I don’t grow enough to have my setup around full-time. I want to store the tent while not using it.
  • Reliable: top quality, no failure option.
I don't care about:
  • Screens/windows: no grow to look in on.
  • Light suppression: no grow lights to suppress.
  • Heat management: no hot lights to vent; only venting is for carbon filter.
To be honest I have no problem paying the $700-$800 for the Gorilla if that’s the only thing that covers my must-haves. I’d just like to make sure I’m not overlooking some other class of tents besides grow tents that fit my needs.

Cheers,
rothkko

A tent will work great and you don't need to shell out the money for gorilla. I have a 4x4 gorilla as well as a cheapo 4x8. While the gorilla tent is vastly superior, for what you need it to do you can go cheap. Hook up an appropriately sized fan and carbon filter. Bring your stuff in and close the door. You won't be able to zip it completely but as long as your fan is powerful it will be OK.

Thanks @Hot Diggity Sog, a cheaper grow tent is exactly the kind of suggestion I was looking for. Any specific recommendations from your knowledge?

Can you clarify? Do cheaper tents have smell leaks or is there something else I'm not clear on?

So the thing that's important is that tents are no where near air tight. They are not meant to be and they certainly don't need to be. When you introduce an exhaust fan, you create negative pressure and you can see this by the walls of the tent being sucked in. Air (and smell) will follow the path of least resistance which will be your carbon filter and then fan. The cheaper tents are mainly cheaper because the fabric is much thinner than the gorilla tents.

Crystal-clear, thank you. This fits my assumption that if I rig a tent with a carbon filter and fan it will fit my smell requirements.

Any reco on a good value tent for this purpose?

Awesome, thank you. This aligns with @Hot Diggity Sog's advice.

Any reco on a value tent for this purpose? I'm only familiar with the high-end grow manufacturers at this time.

We use a 10x10 tent to trim in. But we do it so we can just run a volcano in the middle of the room all day. Stops putting out vapor, put more weed in. Doesn't make it not smell. Makes us smell like a fresh bud for a day or two. One shower doesn't take it off you. Like trimming in a huge vapor bag. Woohoo.
We started doing this so we didn't have to take smoke breaks. Just breath.....

Ha! In the opposite direction of what I was looking for, but absurdly awesome nonetheless and I'm grateful for having learned this. Thanks @Cannasutraorganics.

The 1st tent I bought (The 4' x 8') was from here:

I think these are perfectly suitable for what you need. They are very inexpensive.

Thanks @Hot Diggity Sog, the 8x8 should do nicely. This is now the tent to beat for my trim. Its only con for me is I'm 6' 4" so I can't just stroll in to the tent without a slight duck. I'll spend most of my time in the tent sitting so the hunch while coming in and out isn't worth the extra $466 + height kit required for the Gorilla with the same floor area and adjustable height.
