Tent or Closet DIY?

Tents are a great way to IMMEDIATELY isolate your grow space from things like carpet, cracks in the walls or gaps in the closet doors etc. I've never grown in a closet but I do have my tent sticking out of the closest, doors removed. I love it.

I live in a dry climate, especially in the winter, which is my growing season for that and other reasons. I vent into the crawl space, as my closet is in the basement, and we don't have much of an attic anyway. The extra humidity helps bring our home to a better range for humans - and my guitars. Primarily the guitars. Always about the guitars... :p Or weed.....

Gaps in closets wont hurt your grow. I'm currently in the process of testing it out and have no hermies and nice buds forming

I don't have a tent, but I am out of the closet {did that come out rite? LOL}
Tents work wonderfully, so you need to decide.
I would first grow in your closet to see if this something you
will do again. Lot of good advice given with all the replies so far.
I forgot to mention before, that is a great light you got!

Thank you all for the input! I'm only planning to grow occasionally, so for now my plan is to give the closet a go with some auto flower seeds. If it sucks I can always add the tent, but its called weed how hard can it be to grow... right? Right?!

I can't vent to the attic (HVAC ducting) so I'll just return it to the room and leave the gym door open. The CFM stuff I've read makes my head spin. Assuming I use the gap under the closet door for the intake what sort of fan+scrubber should I look for?

a room that small, you probably don't need to worry about specialized fans and CFM. Just use whatever fans you can grab cheaply. The key is that you need a clear path for air to come in and out of the closet, if you want to minimize risk of mold. But you're right, it's not a huge deal, just grow and grow until you outgrow that space, that way you can get up and running quickly. ;)

Yeah start in there for sure. If you're like most of us, you'll end up getting another set up running as well either during or straight after this grow. One small set up leaves fuck all to do once its up and running.

As for exhaust fans, better off getting a ducted dc motor 6 inch with variable speed and run it on low. Quieter than a 4 inch screaming. Last a lot longer too. You'll need a carbon filter if youre exhausting into a habitable room. It'll stink in there after theyre a few weeks old. So will anyone who goes in there to work out. I'll also add, you can never have to many fans circulating air. Try to get every leaf moving during flower if dealing with high humidity.

No sure of your situation, but in the perfect world you'd vent up through the ceiling, place the fan up there in the crawl space, you'll barely hear it. Then duct it out (add a carbon filter if you have close neighbors) through a vent outside ideally under the eave if possible. Saves roof penetration.

I think some of the appeal of a tent setup is easier ventilation with some sort of tent+fan+filter package. There's an inch and a half gap under the door (45 sq in) and I could cut a hole in the drywall above the door for the exhaust of the fan+scrubber (mounted to the shelf). This would require extending the shelf to the door, but should save me some money and look cleaner.

Would that be enough air movement for the space?
66" sounds like a limitation, but I'm also more concerned with quality than quantity. How limiting is it?
Was thinking two 5 gal buckets for the pots but that may further limit my space. Should I use different pots?

I always just killz/flat white my room every other grow and bleach with a sprayer couple times a grow and a good ol scrubbing

As long as his intake rh% isnt to high and his exhaust is in line(which shouldnt take much) the closet should stay pretty stable. Im guessing his budget isnt that high. The money spent on a tent could buy this guy some vitals. I think his money is better invested elsewhere for a budget grow.

After he gets his feet wet I'm sure a upgrade will be in line if he wants/has room. If your intending on sizing up your room eventually I'd oversize everything and dial it down. Less costs later on when/if you buy a tent.

Maybe this helps with more ideas around perfecting your available space as best can be. Oh, and copious amounts of white duct tape to seal everything up nicely! :D

I did mine similar but damn the smell still makes it out.

You need more cfm on your exhaust. Id oversize and speed control so that you get a real good negative airflow coming from any/all cracks/gaps. If your negative air flow is good enough the smell will go away even if its not sealed good
