LED is great for veg. I think it produces more compact plants, closer nodes. Even blurples do ok with veg. I would also suggest you build a frame for the bottom of the tent lined with pond liner. It will save you a lot of grief with spills. I learned that the HARD way. Had to replace part of the floor...oops!

Good info thanks cindysid

What are some good LED light brands and a bang for buck product.

Also when your using an HPS ballast with a 1000w you obviously need a cooling fan....do you set the exhaust up to cool the light off at the same time or do you need to run a separate cooling fan?

hi, if you don't mind me adding my 2 cents, iplant on amazon makes a purported 1k LED for under 100 dollars. they all say its this or that power rating, most are way off. however I own one, on the first round of 12/12 and at week 5.3 am happy w the results thus far. It's quiet and the 5x5x70 tent is at 79° to 81°f w 52% humidity. There is one fan running but for the plants (Honeywell HT-900 TurboForce Air... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001R1RXUG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) awesome fan. I've had great results w a 600w CMH loved it but huge heat issue plus larger energy draw, ultimately will try out the hlg qb's, 360 probably.

I have to use a/c where I am and I use cool tube fixtures. Cooling is definitely an issue with hps. It's pretty hot here year round For vegging a viparspectra or similar will do fine. I used to use a viparspectra, but now I use T5s, but only because they work better with my light movers.

light movers, ooooh swanky, nice addition. i just smack the lights to rock em now and again....btw i totally failed to address your main subject the tent :| sorry. my 5x5 is a lot bigger in the room than i thought it would be, i feel like the king of Persia in that thing. my 3 person northface tent is smaller. there are 5 plants w about a qp's worth of bud in there and its taking 1/3 of the space at the most. metal framed amazon cheapie but i used black gasket sealer to fix up light leaks. how's the search going anyways? cheers

Well the search is going well. I'm getting all the info I can to make a good decision about how big what light what fan what this what that. The worst thing I can do is rush it and ruin everything. I think a vivosun tent will do or maybe the other 3x3 Ipower brand or whatever it was (saved webpage) and will be planning a drainage solution also. Not going for cheap fan and still getting the ideas of temp/humidity control.

So.....with another set of questions....
1. Who has mothers and what size is good for them to keep them in? 2x2 is good enough?

2. In a 3x3 how much bud can you produce say given "good" conditions in comparison to a 4x4....the reason I say good is because nothing in my life is quite perfect.....its bloody chaos usually lol

The reason I ask this is because I'm wondering if it's possible to have a mom of my favourite strain and take a few cuttings to flower... and I want to try seeding different strains also...but 1 at a time obviously.

For instance flower some clones from mom....and sprout some seeds for the next batch and flower those....while mom is just vegging.

My gorilla tent came with a removable bottom liner that you can take out to clean or replace. Seems like a similar feature to what you described and very handy.

Just have to keep them really small. You can keep a single mother in a 2x2, more is pushing it IMO but you can do it. How many clones do you need to be cutting and how often will determine ideal mother size. Always wise to have some extra space if it's possible.

2. In a 3x3 how much bud can you produce say given "good" conditions in comparison to a 4x4....the reason I say good is because nothing in my life is quite perfect.....its bloody chaos usually lol
Well lets assume you can pull an average yield of 1.5 pounds off a 4x4 area, thats 1.5 ounces per sqft. Then a 3x3 area would be about 13.5 ounces at that same production level of 1.5 ounces per sqft. 2 ounces per sqft is doable for sure and that would be 18 ounces in a 3x3.

Ya my cheap 2x4' Topolite tent came with a liner too, but I would want the Gorilla to flower in since I can already see a couple of pinhole leaks in the seams of this one. But I only use it for cloning, vegging, and saving genetics. I know the tent is upside down, but works well how I have it set up.

And I am running out of space in there fast. 2 15 gallon and 2 3 gallon pots. So like Renfro said, extra space is nice if you have it. Here's a pic of of the tent a month ago, and then today. They are going in my other closet soon, so it's all good.

I don't know what the liner is like on the Gorilla tent, but the cheaper tents have leaky liners and they don't have a good enough frame to support them well. I just built my own with 2x4's and pond liner. That's also what I use in my grow room just for safety's sake. I'm messy!

Yeah I have a set of 3 channel ones too, one in veg, one in room a and one in room b. I keep the readouts on my desk upstairs so I can monitor temps and humidities while I am chilling. I hear they make wifi ones now too that are even better, they connect to your internet router and you can check from your phone, setup alerts and whatnot.
One thing I forgot to mention is I popped out the red LEDs in the sensors with a tiny screwdriver. At first I put Gorilla tape over it, but that didn't do much of anything. Those things are bright as hell.

I see you have the little juvenile there under a jug in a pot. GENIUS! Nice little makeshift clone hut. What kind of light is that you have over top of there for vegging?

Another thing I wondered was would it be beneficial or even possible to put extra lights around the sides of a plant. I'm thinking like a personal "super plant" type grow for 1 maybe 2 plants for that special occasion smoke. I think it would be redundant possibly because of the mylar around being so reflective it would be most likely better to just put 2 big lights above and make sure the climate is adjusted correctly I.e heat humidity.

Thoughts?

Thanks man. Ya that's my clone only Green Crack that I want to keep going awhile. I have em under a 6 bulb t5.

And ya it's beneficial to add side lighting, you should see some of these guys plants on here with quantum boards surrounding em, but I only have top lighting now. I only have 1 plant in my flower room though now so I have all 3 of my lights hovering around the one plant. It's still the dark cycle though, so I can't take a pic to show you. And if your walls are white, I would ditch the Mylar, but that's me.

I use side lighting. Love it. Sides yield like tops. If you have the space and can cool the added heat then side lighting rocks. A side trellis is handy to keep the plants off the side lights.

That's awesome. Defs post a pic up of the flowering room. I'm just getting my feet wet with this so side lighting probably a ways away still for me.

First thing that's a MUST is getting a drying tent or box ready.

Still worried I'm gonna mess something up and ruin the summers work. First time jitters.....

I was just talking about a different cheap grow tent to dry in instead of the one your gonna grow in. Something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJYHB5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I know this was a while back in the convo but that tent up here in CANADA IS 165 BUCKS!!!! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK IS MY DOLLAR DOING lol

I have a 16x16 48inch tall for 78 in my sights....more than enough for now. Dental floss inside.. a good start lol

a decent humidity control lots of darkness, indirect air movement and you're golden. You will find what works best for you soon enough just enjoy this. first time I ever trimmed my own plants I was laughing like a little boy didn't seem real.

I laugh like a little boy every day when I wake up and check them in the backyard lol. I love them so much. We started with a lemon tree in November I think....the wife brought it home. Currently I have more plants than I can count between tomatoes and houseplants of every sort. Nothing grows like cannabis. It's pretty... it flowers.. it smells...its just the best. Will definitely be a lifetime grower.

Question about your fan situation.....is that just the inside fan or is that THE ONLY fan you have? I'm assuming you need an exhaust fan and an inside fan to keep the air circulating.

its the only one. i do have a 4" inline w carbon filtration, used it once to see what's that like, but really the tent door is open 6 am till pm 6:45 so temp is 79 - 81f 52% humidity. tent closed w 94°f outside its 87 - 89 degrees w one 4" vent open and an 8 inch on top open. w 4" inline, its 79 -80°f. Am self employed, only one who lives in the home and the rooms ac venting only has a feed, return is in the hallway (1952 house) so the odor control and chill is strong. just closed the tent up a little while ago: 75.5 degrees.

So essentially the house smells potent of weed. I guess my plan is to set up in the basement. It's legal up here in Canada and my daughters will be in the know. Cracking the stigma now at a young age and showing responsible use and care.

I'm not sure how much I need to ventilate the tent. I assume with veg I could leave a vent open. Basement is always dark. The flower tent I suppose I will need heavier ventilation. Given the light would most likely be a 1000w hps...not sure entirely yet but likely going that way. So an inline 6 inch with a filter. So much to consider....lol

I think I'm going to start smaller at first and get some crops under my belt. Maybe a little 3x3 flower room and a 2x2 mom next door is my options for now.
