That's it. It's no longer "flushing" for harvest it's now "starving" for harvest.

That's basically what I said. On it's own it's worthless. But with micbes in the mix. It feeds them and broke down. Surgar is turned into carbs that the plant can use. But the bottom line was with or without it I haven't seen a difference. The biggest thing I found about not useing it. Is it's alot easyer to clean my system.

Started growing in 2010, flushed on my first grow, didn't on my second. Never flushed again. Jack Herer and Super Lemon Haze came out perfectly tasty, I've compared it to the real deal in Amsterdam earlier this summer, didn't notice much difference. I'll never flush again.

I thought this site was about helping each other and sharing grow techniques, seems to be an awfull lot of mindless bitching because they cant agree???
My 2 pennies worth,
I grow in gold label compost (good quality, not too hot) with additional nutes, from week 3 to 5 (grow nutes), week 5 to 10 (bloom nutes), for the last 2 weeks water only (no flushing just clean watering).
Using soil there is no shock or starvation just a gentle depletion in available nutes, if I time this right it will coincide with the last green leaves just starting to yellow, signalling that the plant has pretty much stopped its nitrogen take up.

I have discussed the flushing debate with several friends, those who gain benefit from flushing are generally using more nutes or a hotter soil mix. Those who use less agressive nute/stimulant/hormone combinations will see no benefit from flushing as the plant draws to a more natural "finish".
I accept that I could increase my yields by using more nutes and hormones, but this would increase the risks of affecting the final flavour and burn quality, without very careful control of the nutes during the final stages (easier to control more accurately in hydroponics rather than soil).

This may help to explain why there are such differing attitudes towards flushing, some people may genuinly get better results if they flush, but this is down to they're own particular grow techinque (and a billion other factors).

But then, I've only been growing since '85, so I've still got alot to learn.

I flush twice during flower. once about 4 weeks in and again about 8 weeks in. By flush I mean pouring several gallons of water through my 1.5 gallon pots to get rid of any built up ferts. the last gallon of the flush gets nutes as usual. Meaning I don't starve the plants at any time, as soon as I'm done flushing the soil it's back to feeding as normal.

the flush brings out the true flavor of the bud without the nutrients
sure you might get a few more gs but bud that ive had that wasnt flushed was inferior to bud that had been.

so whats your reasoning behind it, your obviously experienced and have your reasons id like to hear them

A plant is not a radiator. You can't "flush" it. If you pushed the nutrients such that you have a stressed plant then you've got problems. If you're kept it nice and green until the end, then it should smoke sweet. I think the harshness comes mainly from the make up of the tars, terpenes and other stuff found in the smoke.

Its so well known as to be irrefutable that unflushed weed mostly tastes awful and burns poorly with black ash, everybody who,s a regular in Amsterdam knows the signs and symptoms of badly flushed weed. Plus, the argument that you are somehow '' Killing '' the plant at the harvesting stage is equally flawed, by the time a plant is ready for harvest/flushing it is literally on its death bed, if all has gone to plan the plant is a virgin queen, unfertilised and unable to fulfil its biological destiny by putting any further energy into producing seeds, it is dying, it is pushing up the daisies, it has departed to the great grow room in the sky. All we do is perform a form of euthanasia.

Flushing doesn't stop the uptake of nutrients, it completes the uptake of nutrients. My fan leaves stay dark green up through the last week of harvest, when they start to fade.

The whole point is to stop the flow of nutrients, so you aren't left with flowers full of nutrients. If you stop the flow at the right time, your plants will still have the proper amount of nutrients up until harvest day, it's that simple.

Yup most agreed. I flush twice during a grow. One time before flower and last time before harvest

this is true... people have taken flush too far and don't do it right so yes those people starve thier plants just like the ones who pump bloom boosters then end up with a sick yello plant starve thier plants, but thats a totally difrent topic. flush does not mean starve it just means remove excess nutes and it seems people have turned it into dumping 50 gallons of water through your plant for 2 weeks but that is not the proper way to flush. to properly flush all you really need to do is stop feeding the last 2 weeks, you should have enough built up to grow heathy plants for 2 weeks and if you want on your last watering you can water then wait 15 min for the leftover nutes to dissolve then dump 2 or 3 times the normal water through then wait a couple days and harvest when you would normally be watering next so your buds aren't weighted down with all that water
