Here's a cool little article I just found evaluating the the/tar ratios of assorted smoking utensils I know everyone says you can't drink your bong water because the isn't water soluble but according to this it actually can e, by the spuds of it it's not actually because of the molecular structure of the but because of its characteristics. Which kind of sucks...because i only smoke bongs unless I'm running around. :-(

The more important point to me is the water is not really filtering out tar. This is an article revised sixteen years ago but I don't know of a contradictory study. The article says more THC is lost in the water than tar, proportionally. I can take a big bong hit but a small brass pipe hit gets me higher per gram.

I've always been a big bong smoker but I've been hacking up tar balls every morning for the last year. I quit a few days ago but the tar phlegm is still there which is actually good news. I became concerned when the phlegm no longer contained tar--that meant the cilia in my lungs had shut down.

How can you tell if there's tar in your phlem?

It's black/gray with little black balls of tar if you look closely.
Defffinatly had some of that, but hey I got a question I cough up some clear\white almost plastic feeling shit I think it might be from excess exposure of ammonia gas or hcl gas, any input?

This sucks. I just got a Pax 2 vaporizer to make up for the fact that I smoke cigarettes. (I hate smoking cigarettes btw, but it calms me down when I can't blaze at work) Although not mentioned in the study, I'd imagine that the gas mask bong that I typically smoke out of, would obviously fall under the category of water pipes. However, gas mask bongs typically have additional filtration due to the design in it's mouthpiece, and typically require only 1-2 hits to get really baked since the mask keeps in the smoke. I'm curious if the same conclusion can be reached smoking from bongs such as these in comparison to standard bongs/water pipes.

"The reason is that waterpipes filter out proportionately more psychoactive THC than they do other tars, thereby requiring users to smoke more to reach their desired high. The study does not rule out the possibility that waterpipes could have other benefits, such as filtering out noxious gases, but it suggests that other methods, such as the use of high potency pot, vaporizers, or oral ingestion, are needed to avoid harmful toxins in marijuana smoke."

Could gas mask bongs filter out the noxious gases and reduce toxins?

thc is a vapor at it boiling temp. once it cools it solidifies.
thr majority of the loss isnt due to dissolution but condensation. In the water and glass.

How on earth could you become excessively exposed to HCL gas? I was under the impression most people died after such experiences.

Ditto the NH3.
