the attic grow room debate

well your biggest problem is the heat signature given off by all the heat buildup. If a police chopper does a fly bye and sees that heat, your done for!
(remember that the police scanner can only pick up the heat signature directly on the surface of objects) So if you run cooling pipes on the ceiling you can remove that risk.
I'm not sure that this is accurate. There was a case in New Jersey a few years ago that ended up going to the Supreme Court. I can't find the link to the story but here is basically what happened. A police chopper on a random fly-by spotted a heat signature coming from the man's house. They then used this as probably cause to get a search warrant. They did the search and found plants. The judge ruled that the search was illegal b/c the evidence they used, took away his right to privacy in his home.

This is not to say that a heat signature can't get you busted. Now cops can spot your heat signature and use that as a flag to follow you, watch you, look through your trash, etc. This means if you are very discrete about your grow (disposing of trash at another location, etc ) I don't think you could get busted for the heat signature alone.

but trying to build and ebb & gro you would spend more time/money trying to build one than buying one. getting everything watertight. the controller for the system is the brains of the operation and that is 300 dollars if u buy it alone. u can try to build one, but when i was assembling it me and my buddy both said there was no way possible we could have built it. unless you can get your hands on all the supplies needed at once it would take weeks to get all the stuff and them assemble it. and then u still have to worry about things leaking, going wrong ect. i know i can leave my ebb & gro for like 3-4 days and not have to worry about it.
uhhh...I built five of them that don't leak. The key is buying pond liner. Even posted how to build one. Not that I recommend building them. I did it because there weren't any that would fit my setup. VV

i was talking about building a modular bucket type ebb & flow like the ebb & gro that i bought. not a planter style box that ur doin. it would be super hard trying to drill holes into buckets and get everyone watertight. and building the controller would be super tough to i think. rather spend the 500 on a badass hydroponics system that is expandable up to 48 pots.

ever seen mr. green's custom built setup on youtube? search for "I Grow Chronic" he's got a great dvd on youtube split into 9 videos 8-9 minutes each. He builds an Ebb and flow planter out of parts himself, and shows a built drip hydroponics system.
