Picked up a few things at walmart.

Black duck-tape
Black "Pencil cup"
Smaller black "Pencil cup"
Black ladies socks (pantyhose)
Activated carbon

Poor some carbon in the mesh like "pencil cup"

.... just enough so the smaller cup is level with the larger cup.

Slip the smaller cup into the sock

Tuck the sock into the smaller cup holding the end of the sock. Pore in the carbon.. keep holding the end of the sock.

Now pull on the end of the sock and use your finger to guide the carbon into the space between both cups until filled.

Now pull the end of the sock over the entire filter.. twist the end of the sock at the bottom and pull it up over the end of the cup.

Now simply use duck-tape to place the filter over your exhaust fan. I used a rubber band to secure it...

Works great... though I already miss that sweet aroma =[

this is a great idea! how long will the carbon do its thing for? how often should it be replaced?

just made two and they look perdy... accept they didn't have both sizes so i had to just mod one smaller to fit inside. thanks so much for the idea! :clap:

Love this thread! After reading I went right out to try to find the supplies in my area. Wal-Mart had the small cup size but not the larger one. When I asked about it I was told the larger was was fazed out and they would not be getting any more. After reading other posts I realized that others were having this same problem.

I then went to Target, Staples, and Office Depot, all with no success. Went to Office Max and bingo, just the one I needed. They had the larger one for $3.99 in silver, not black.

So if anyone else is looking for the materials, Office Max had both sizes you need. Although the smaller sized cup was cheaper at Wal-Mart. Good luck!

After finding this thread yesterday I found all the materials needed and finished the install this morning. It was VERY easy to make.

I have a homemade grow box that is about 2.5' deep, 4' wide and 5' tall. To vent it I bought a simple bathroom ceiling exhaust fan at HomeDepot for $13. It pulls allot of air out of that cabinet and is very quiet and does not let any light in. It's perfect.

I hooked up a 45 degree 2" PVC elbow to the outside exhaust that I connected to a 4 port 2" junction. One slot was taken up with the connection, and on the other three I installed three of the custom made filters. They are working great. To attach them I added 3/4" weather stripping around the outside rim of the PVC pipe. It is sticky on one side and smooth on the other. Once that was on the filter fit snugly over that with no leaks and with no way of coming off.

I am loving it so far and hope it last for a good while.

I will post pics of my set up in the next day or so.

I can say that the smell has been cut down my at least 95% with the filters installed. The number may be higher if my box was sealed around the edges a little better.

The mesh cup I got from Office Max was exactly like the Wal-Mart mesh cup except in silver instead of black. It had a very small lip around the top, but nothing that gets in the way. (The Office Max cup was larger of course)

nothing specific, was just curious to see how your plants looked thats all. looks like a pretty good set up from the outside or at least what i can see.

Hey Wolfman , thanks for the idea. I use it in my dry box and it works great with an exhaust fan for a pc video card.
