Anyone know where I could find some DIY wiring harness info? Books or forums maybe? The harness on this 7.5 460 is almost completely gone thanks to rats.

I haven't found any new ones anywhere. I have seen used ones for sale on ebay every now and then, but there's currently nothing listed.

I'm still a ways off from getting to that point yet but I thought I'd ask. I mean I'd like to get it running but I've got lots to do so I could just bump it to the bottom of the list. I've seen people wire a vehicle from the ground up and thought someone could recommend a book or something.

I guess I'll just get a good used harness.

It all depends on the extent of your needs. I only recommended a complete new harness because i know most of the guys i know that build rat rods and such just order random cheap readily available harnesses and use those to make what they have already work.
If the rats chewed a few dozen wires in one spot id just rewire it myself and not worry about a full swap

There's not much left of the wiring from the firewall forward. The rats had at the wires for years before I bought the thing. Still happy about the price at any rate, $500 for the RV. Low mileage 460 backed by a 727 and it has a running generator.

I've got plans for it. :fire:

I've got a haynes manual for it somewhere (Econoline van) I've just missplaced it.

lot easier said then done unless you know wtf your doing did it once never again took for ever to get it all working properly
to the person not sure what kind of harness you are looking for vehicle or motor alone ?? 460 so this came out of a truck i would look at truck forums or that year truck after market places etc like Year one

after market parts sure they will have something that will work to much shit involved in doing it your self unless your patient cause when i did it you need to be clean or it looks like shit .. and if you send it out your going to pay dearly cause they know its shit and fustrating work
also one gets pretty pissed off rather quick when working in confined places there fore i walked away from job to many times lol

Vehicle. It's still in the RV, which is based off of a Ford Econilone van. I'm keeping the engine, trans, front and rear end and most of the frame but ditching the body.
 
yeah well what ever body you decide to put it in should have harness intact for motor harness not much needed battery pos / N starter wires from vehice to motor starter alternator wiring should be there if anything you may need some connectors if you want it clean rather then eletrical tape lol you can pick up all kinds of kits misc for that i thought you were looking for motor compartment harness attached to fire wall that has nothing to do with motor functions
 
Replacement body is a rusty, crusty, dented and mismatched 1955 pontiac chieftain 2 door post I got for cheap and either a old 40's pickup bed behind it or a flatbed. I'm gonna run rig style exhaust pipes out of the rear fender wells on the pontiac.
 
Wait what the hell is it a ford 460 backed by a Chrysler 727? or is it a Chrysler 440 and a 727? or a ford 460 and a c6? You need just an engine harness or everything from the firewall forward? Just the engine would be simple simple to make a harness for, assuming it's still a carb and not injection. Ron Francis, painless wiring, American auto wire are a couple companies that do complete universal harnesses..run about $400-$600 for multi circuit system. I know I've seen just DIY engine harnesses for like $125-$150.
