A kilowatt meter
A multimeter if you is anal lol
So I know this is probably a stupid question but will the one I test my car with work?

Also, this question is kinda for anyone. Do I need special nuts and bolts to attach the driver to the heatsink? HLG was kind enough to send me the screws to attach the board but left me assed out on the ones to connect the driver:cuss:Can I just use something that fits from hardware store or an I gonna have to order some?

Thought I remembered seeing that they had some sort of rating on the screws so I figured the nuts and bolts for driver would be same...

Anyone please? Lol. I'm dying to slap these together. Highly disappointed with HLG for not giving me 8 nut and screw sets when I spend 295USD with them, smdh...

Kilowatt meters are dirt cheap, around a tenner and are very simple to use.
I use the MW A drivers.
Just plug your light into it, take off the rubber grommet/grommets on the mw driver, insert a screwdriver, turn it clockwise, watch the watts rise. Turn screwdriver anti clockwise see the watts go down.

If the meter for you car testing looks something similar to this one I use you'll be sweet.

What would people prefer for 4x4 tent.. 480w or 2 240w boards? at 480w model driver wouldnt be at top of leds so much.. and I'm looking for qeeklight 2020 monster board with all those fancy bluetooths.. so is it trustworthy company or should I stick with kingbrite and meijiu? Thx for answers I'm changing from hps after 10 years :D

Back again... Lol. So if I wanted to mount drivers outside of tent how would I go about this? I have some ideas of my own but I'm wondering if one or more of you guys do this and if so how you do it. Wanna be prepared for when summer hits. Plan on having at least six boards in my 5x5x6.5 tent and I imagine having that many drivers will add quite a bit of heat.

I mean my only option is more wire and wagos eh?

Would it be possible to repurpose a laptop charger to power led lights? A Lenovo T440 could possibly power 7 BXEB Gen3 strips in parallel?

T440 Charger
Power: 90W
Output Voltage: 20V
Output Current: 4.5A

BXEB-L0590U
Volts: 19.1
Watts: 13.4
Current: 700ma

So I think I have this set but have a couple questions. All I need is the boards, heatsinks, driver, potentiometer (optional, I know) and then shit to hang em with right? Oh yeah wagos or whatever they're called too. Is that all?
Also if I'm gonna do 4 288s on 2 heatsinks then should I get two separate hlg-240-48b drivers or just get the one 480 driver?
i am waiting for my 4 boards to get here but i already have everything else for a build. i am using 1/8th thick aluminum plate as my heat sink. i copied the HLG-550 specs and went with a 20”x26” piece of plate. cost me $53 from a local metal shop.

Oooo I’d be careful, HLG uses high spec aluminum.

Sorry, I shouldn’t joke. Some people might actually see that and throw out their DIY plans out because they can’t find high-spec aluminum.

Put a fan above it, blowing over it.
That'll sort it

Well to provide an update to my light build, after a week of use, my tent temps are steady at
83f. My 6 inch exhaust fan is at about 60% with RH maintaining 50%. The outer boards are running at 180w and the centre boards are at 140w. Slowly upping levels until reach 550-600w total.

Found a buddy with a PAR meter so once this run is done, I’ll be doing some testing to show what the China boards are capable of. By the looks of it the plants are loving the fuck out of it and growing fast. I’ll try to take some pics tonight.
