Ok well let me ask this what kind of board and/or how many to light a 5x5 area.. I’m honestly gonna end up buying something tonight to get my feet wet and start building
@Fupaslayer
It will take two lights like below to cover a 5 by 5 foot tent.
So six QB 288's
HLG's boards have the red diodes as do some of the Chinese boards but beware there is chance you are buying a lower quality diode bin if you shop in China online there are no rules or really anyway you can tell if they are as good as HLG or those they list as partner sellers online. Diodes come in bins , the best ones cost more , they look the same but don't work the same.

HLG is pricey but they will likely be around if there are problems verses trying to claim on a warranty overseas should you get a bad board or a bad driver which happens I am sure.
Jerry from Kingbright would be a good supplier from China if you go that route.
3000k for flower(veg too but not the best) and 4000k for vegging before flower.
HLG new QB288 with reds is 3500k so may be best as a dual purpose light.

@Fupaslayer
Ask away, no question is stupid .
yes these are complete lights I listed.
You can select to have them come assembled if you look at links I posted, if you can afford it might be best first time it is like 35 bucks if they assemble i think and they test them.
Don't cheap out you will regret it, buy good stuff and work with that and veg some plants and buy more light as you go is my suggestion.
Cobs kinda went out of style as the way QB boards work cobs are hard to warrant these days as they often lack red which helps in flower.

Ohh ok I guess ima buy something from hlg and see how it goes can’t be worse than what I’ve flowered with in the past ( couple25/50watt cfls and 125watt cfl) but right now I’m just vegging with cheap leds off amazon and wanted something good for flower

this would veg and flower not too bad and it is good price. It would not cover as well as 3 panel light(I listed a link in other message) but if cost is stopping you consider this unit.

I'm still scared of anything above 3000K, had some stretchy mofos when we experimented with higher klevin COBs.

Hello guys,
Just a quick question. I am looking at replacing my cheap lights with a QB. The blurples gave me some results on my previous grows, but I know it can be better, plus the heat is too much. I found a chinease QB on Aliexpress (Enfun420 led grow light quantum board LM301B 288Pcs Chip Full spectrum 240w samsung 3000K, 660nm Red Veg/Bloom state Meanwell driver) which is a very good price ATM. It might be a bit of an overkill for my space(2x1.5), but I am thinking maybe get the 2 board one, and dim it down. My question is would the 3000k+660nm be a good choice? Also, would these run hot as well? At the moment the temp inside the tent is about 86-87, so I keep it open, im running autos, so the light leak doesnt matter much, but the ambient here is quite hight as well 75-80ish, so hopefully the QB will let me keep the tent closed?

I built a light with 2x FOLUX PLUS LM301B 3000K with a HLG-240H-48B with a dimmer. 120W panels for 240W total.

When I tested it, it pulled 248W from the wall.

I just built another with the same parts (from the same order as the first light), and it reads 228W from the wall.

Is this even a problem?

Should I replace the dimmer pot/resistor? 10K pot read 8.7K so added a 10K resistor.

Or is the missing 12W ever going to be missed?

Thanks for any help!

Great idea. Won't be hot as you'll be dimmed, mount the driver outside your tent. And yes, 3000K and added red kicks ass

hey guys i will be moving soon and will have more than 100 sq. ft at my disposal! Not sure how many amps I'll have to work with yet though.

Since I am starting a new room and buying new equipment i am trying to SAVE as much money as possible while being efficient with lighting. I am debating between going with all CMH lighting, all Vero29 COB lighting,or all chinese QB lighting...

I have build CXB3590 fixtures from scratch heatsink and all. Can you guys help me figure out where and what i should buy when it comes to Quantum boards exactly?

It seems like Meijiu is the general consensus for quantum boards? I checked their alibaba site and there's so many variations of QBs I don't know what to look for. I see things like LM361 or 561 or something like that and i have no idea what im looking for.

In the past i bought my COBs from cutter, meanwell drivers from arrow, heatsinks from cdiweb.com

I am totally open to DIY to save money. What are my best options, price-wise, as far as where i should buy every thing from? and what QBs should I be getting?

also, not sure if i am better off by saving money by using T5 lighting in the veg room and LED in the flower room?

I'm running DIY QB's with CMH for blooming...the plants seem to like the combo!
