Hello!

I'm planning my new build, to compare against a 8 x Vero 29C working at 480w @ 3500k, really efficient setup. But lacking on a few spectrums.

I'm looking to get 4 x QB272 (2020 version: QB272 with 660nm UV IR) on a Meanwell 320 (80w each board), So I dont need special heatsink, just an aluminium 5mm sheet will do the trick. 2 of thils build to fit on a 4x4" tent. 640w total.

Along this, will buy for the COB build some separate channels of the wavelenghts I'm missing. 660, 730 and 390. I got 160w to match the other panel.

3 x kingbrite quantum board bar QB22 cree xpe2 red 660nm led strip grow light (100w)
2 x kingbrite quantum board cree 730nm far red qb11 strip led grow light (30w)
2 x Kingbrite QB11 QUANTUM BOARDS UV 380-400NM (24w)

I will compare the 2 build directly, so I am missing something of the ecuation or should I try this?

Sounds like a good plan, just be sure that the qb272’s are firmly mounted due to potential mechanical stresses as mentioned earlier. The solder points on the boards are the weak spots. I don’t think the qb11 strips would suffer from the same problem due to their dimensions.

Meiju can get lm561c in 90 cri with some moq
I inquired on the lm301h at 90 cri... 40,000 pieces was the number, almost 29 of the majo 3.2, which are the 600w with some reds and blues. 232 white led per strip, 6 strips per fixture. Not terrible if you have a permit for 10k sq ft, but it's a large number for a hobby enthusiast.

Ok, thats clear enough. For lm561c it was 10 fotops : 8000 diodes moq.

Invisible sun horticulture is the only one i know who does lm301h in 90 cri. Expensive but really nice llooking.

and is about 2' high, and a veg room 2'x'3 and 2' high.
Obviously height is an issue and I'm not sure how to best light it and get a good coverage.
One idea was to DIY a series of fixtures and use screw in LED bulbs, 3-4 10w bulbs per sq ft,
seems like it could get a good amount of light spread evenly throughout the space.
The other option I'm considering is something like these QB setups, I just don't know how
well it would work with such a low ceiling, and how well the light spreads at such a short distance.

Would anyone be able to advise me on this? Seems like ye know yer stuff.
Any input would be much appreciated

I dont know of a way to make 2' height work in flower. Maybe with some short autos or 12-12 from start coupled with side lighting. Or scrogging your plants but in that case its better if you just run 2 separate full cycle spaces as its hard to move the scrog from one space too another.

If you got veg/flower on top of eachother then try to make it into one 4' space.

Is this your first grow? I think maybe you want this to happen so bad that you havent thought this thru completely. When you put a plant from veg to flower it will usually double in size. Thats some really small plants to flower, have they grown enough to become mature? Also how will you move air inside the box with no space for fans.

Dont get me wrong i dont wanna poopoo your plan and i fully admitt that before i had some experience i was full of ideas like this.

If i had to give some advice on this i prob say vesta strips: they variable spectrum so you could use cold white to inhibit stretch and then ww for the bulking part of flower.

do the 2`allready include the pots?
If not, whew, thats hard.
If you have this 2" room to flower, yes strips are nice , driven low, right at the ceiling.
Tons of EB2, driven very low, at 500mA your plants can grow almost directly in to them.
Scrog for sure, if you have 2` from the scrog net to your leds you can be ok with good timing and training.
When going with scrog you can control the stretch and wont need much blue tmho, or at least it isnt the first i would look for.
Some good venting is of course needed and need to be planned, but could be doable.
Hm also how you will reach the plants in the corner at this height? can you open it completly?

@rocket, it's not my first grow, grown a few plants over the years, but I'm still learning a lot.
Started growing again about a year ago when my mother got dx'd with cancer, she's taking a lot of oil along with everything else, and doing great.

@cobshopgrow yeah, unfortunately that includes the pots, was thinking of 4l pots maximum, 1l minimum, have something perpetual ticking over.
Was thinking training would be essential if it were to work. Getting at the plants in the corner will probably be a bit awkward alright, it would be opening from the side.

I'm looking into this because I've had to move location and my new grow room is a lot smaller. In the other place I had a standard height ceiling and space for three tents, two 4x4's and a smaller 3'x4'x5'(height) tent for veg. In my new space only the smaller tent will fit comfortably and take up more than half the room, but it leaves 2' in height, so the idea is to build a shelf that the tent will sit on and have another grow space beneath.
I haven't built the box yet so I can still play with the growroom design, but if I go with this configuration 2' would be the max from floor to ceiling of the box. A friend suggested taking over the whole room and splitting it in two for veg/flower, this would give a similar footprint but way more height, but less room to move around and tend to things. At the end of the day, after scaling down this much I want to optimise the space/situation to be able to continue to produce the most quality meds for my mam.

Have ye any link for the vesta strips? I'd like to have a look.

Theres a thread here on riu and another on ledgardener foorum.

For drivers: they work well with most hlg xxx -48A drivers if youu put 2 in series. The sweet spot is running them around 20w or less per channel.

Thanks for the link Rocket, they look like nice lights, how many strips do you think you could run off of one of those drivers?
I've had a rethink of the grow space and looks like I could have a 3'x5'x6' flower room and two 2'x3'x3' veg spaces stacked on top of each other, one for mothers and clones and the other for vegging.
Do you think these strips would be good for lighting the veg spaces? And how many do you think would be needed to do it?
