Guys, I got 2x bare boards without everything. I want to get driver for it. I know HLG-240-48A/AB or ELG-240-48A/AB is the best choise for them but they are pricey and wanna know if there is any cheaper solutions out there. As I know they work 47-52V @ 500=2700ma. What if I get XLG-240-HA constant power driver? It has adjustable current 2200~6660mA but you cant manually adjust voltage and the range is 27 ~ 56V. My question is: can I use this driver, connect those boards to parallel to them and adjust only current, so each board will work for around 100W? Will the driver adjust the voltage itself based on the current draw from boards?

Thats what theyre supposed to do but i havent tried one fpr my self

It will work but for the few dollars you save id go for a hlg240-48A.

If you set voltage right on a 48A you assure yourself that it cant feed the boards too many amps. If a board or its connection fails then the other board will continue drawing its alloted half. On xlg-H the driver will in such case not limit the voltage, it will automatically feed as much power as it can to the remaining board by autoregulating voltage upwards. For about 10-15$ extra its a function id like to have. Ymmv.

HLG-240-48a costs around 65$ and I have a chance to get XLG-240-HA for just 26$. I thought I would save some bucks but I got your point and you are right. Thank for help

Thats a really good price anyway but id still rec the hlg. Just adjust voltage down to just before the point where it decreases the current running thru the boards. A multimeter is your friend

and one more question please. as I researched in datasheets, HLG and ELG are almost identical since I'm gonna work them on 220vAC. So ELG-240-48a would work perfectly fine as well, right?

To the best of my knowledge. But id still go hlg: the elg has less waterproof rating (iirc) and its a good idea to keep youre driver in the tent for colder months as the driver helps to get up your temps. Id happily do this with the hlg, not sure of the elg.

Difference between a 288 board and a 304?

What do the red diodes do to the plant when flowering? How important is this?

The difference is in how the boards are wired internally which means they have different voltage/max amps but max wattage is almost the same. Using a qb304 it takes a 100something V driver which means youll have to use CC drivers instead of cv.

The 288 boards will usually work with a 48 r 54v driver.

Anyone have a guide or easy way to mount a bunch of boards when running soft? I wouldn't be using heatsinks so I need to make some kind of frame. Suggestions?

Personally, i like just 3 mm alu sheet, a couple of inches between the boards and a couple of inches of lipp. Makes it easy to later maiking a frame just attaching T-channel to the top.

Is choosing the higher wattage HLG 480 better than the HLG 320 if im planning to control my wall watttage consumption ? I still live in my families house, im worried about the bill getting noticabily high.

Your bill won't even notice. That's like a mini AC unit.

hey first time post on this thread and I have read as far back as Feb 1. I am looking for 10 240 kits or 20 boards to DIY for a buddy. I already have HLG gear ( and read almost that entire thread ) but theres no love and they just increased the shipping to Canada to 75 usd to help protect there .ca company and counter all the 10 percent coupon codes being used. Even if you order 1, qb96elite 4"x4" board ( no heatsink ) the charge is 75 usd ( 105 cdn.. ). So with the cdn dollar being really bad here I am trying to piece together a solution thats not a small fortune.

I have explored the Alibaba thing a couple years ago and here I am back. I have several IG mutual followers that use this gear and most love there products. Both KingBrite and Meiju I have seen around for sometime now ( good sign ). I was thinking of either purchasing 240 kits with 660 nm deep reds or something similar. Not sure if the UV or IR ( 730 nm far reds i assume ) are necessary. Something similar to an Rspec. Looking at the colour temps available I see 3000, 3500, 4000. With the deep reds with a 4000k board, should be a good match. I know the new Diablo and qb96elite have a 4000K base. However the Rspecs have a 3500K base of diodes. I think I would lean toward those 2 colour temps with added deep red. I am open to far reds but a little aprehensive of the shade avoidence or perhaps efficiencey. Perhaps there some experience here?

Now I see they offer epistar or cree deep reds. Thats were my knowledge starts to go. From what I have read the cree is more expensive ( better ) than epistar. Not sure which route would be better.

Now I see that KingBrite has prices setups and configurations of all sorts. What boards/kits have fellow growers been buying that they have been really happy with. Pretty much looking for an Rspec type board on a double slate 2 heatsink or 2 singles to install on angled aluminum. Any feedback is always appreciated.
 
Hi daveybc, I just bought the Kingbrite hlg550 v4 samsung lm301h with cree xpe2 660nm 730nm and LG uv switch 480w quantum led board and I love the board. I ordered it two weeks ago, and was a little nervous about getting it with all the Covid19 stuff going on.

I would check the price of our dollar to US funds, before ordering, but in any case it would be far much cheaper than ordering a board from a US supplier. The board arrived exactly a week after ordering, just as I was quoted from KingBrite.

Shipping to Canada was $75. US and I had to pay $43. Cnd for duty.

The board was packed very well and I would deal with KingBrite again, without hesitation.

Happy growing...

I understand that in the right combo the FR causes the Emerson effect but too much can cause shade avoidance. THis has always made me nervous, as I use FR in my current setup to put plants to sleep.

How about spectrum. 4000K, 3500k,3000k It was thinking 3500 or 4000k. My buddy does have a slight height requirement so I was thinking those spectrum's may help with node spacing. Any input or experience with those spectrums. Buddy's space requires multiple 240 kits.

Money is tight and canadian dollar sucks. I think my friend is gunna be happy coming from viper spectra to an affordable solution.

Pretty sure you can run any of the three. 4000k has more blue and is generally used for veg but has shown great results when used in flower. Personally I prefer 3500k.

On another note just grabbed 8 of these boards Board


Hopefully the link works. $32/each , QB288 with red 660nm + UV and IR. Make yourself a HLG 550 at the 3rd of the cost :D

I picked up a meiju 480w qb clone last winter for my pheno hunt tent and it does a very good job. I picked a 3500k lm301b version with 660nm mono's with a meanwell hlg 480-c2800ab driver. They run the diodes a bit harder than HLG but the sink temps never rose above 50 degC in the tent.
I think that you can pick up a 'half-a-qb' 240-watt fixture for around $100 + shipping.

Yes I am seeing that there is quite a difference in price between Epistar vs Cree xpe2. So is the increased price worth it. I would know that.. Is the red of the cree stronger penetrates better than epistar? More efficient ? Anyone know this one? suppose some research.

As well having the V4 with added UV and IR ( 730 nm.. )would be a matter of preference I suppose. With the right combo that would be pretty nice. Something I would have to think about. Can the UV be turned off?

I think I would go with the 3500k as a happy between. Its kind of hard to find specs on these boards. As far as I know they run on Meanwel hlg 240h 48ab drivers for the 240 kits. Has anyone run 2 of these boards in series? I do have a spare hlg 240h c2100a.

I'm also think ordering the boards and heat sinks as above. Perhaps source the driver more locally as mouser to get a full warranty on the driver, decisions.
