The Chronikool of the Crytochrome and the all Conquering Cree™

This has been a long time in the planning thanks to all the ‘RIU LED HEAD’ crew for the community spirit…go team! Special mention to Franjan....my missing floodlight partner in crime..

In my LED experiences and journals I have tried to improve my skills in all my grow room designs and health of my plants and flowers and maybe show someone something along the way..…Im always learning with this hobby and im more addicted to growing, grow room design and LED's then i am smoking this plant....something weird is happening....

Previous grows...(so you can follow along...turn the page at the chime... )

And of course…the jewel in my crown:

The idea of this cabinet is to provide a good spectrum (im not going to say 'the perfect spectrum' as the jury is still out on what that is...plus i need an excuse to keep playing with LED's  ) as the plants progress through their flowering 12/12 cycle.

light-design.jpg

Station 1 (week 0-2) XP-G2 Bin Number: XPGBWT-L1-0000-00FE4

Went with the neutral white XP-G2 to limit the stretch and to make it easier to transition into the 12/12 schedule.

Station 2 (week 2-4) XP-G2 Bin Number: XPGBWT-L1-0000-00EE7

Start of the warm whites

Station 3 (week 4-6) XP-G2 Bin Number: XPGBWT-L1-0000-00EE7

Used to have a cool white chip at this station to throw in some blue to the grow room, but with the new pontoons having ample neutral white (4000-4200k) XM-L2’s positioned, there is ample blue in shining in this flower room.

Station 5 (week 6- XPG

These are the old XPG’s I have been running on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] version of this grow cabinet. Still going strong so I kept them. Will replace with XP-G2’s at some point.

Station 6 (week 8-10) XPG

My finishing station if the plants need it...

Pontoons:

IMG_7118.jpgIMG_7111.jpgIMG_7131.jpgIMG_7133.jpgIMG_7134.jpg
Testing time at the zoo....

Cree-xml-2.jpg
XM-L2: (Bin: T5-5B1) 4000-4200k:
Went with neutral white to provide more blue and more actual supplemental light to the main boards. 9 of these in total.

660nm spectral graph.jpg650-650nm.jpg
660nm: Provide the ‘Hyper red’ of the setup and one half of the ‘Emerson Effect’. One of these mounted on each pontoon.

730.740nm.jpg730nm.jpg
730nm: Provides the ‘Deep red’. First foray into using these. ‘Emerson Effect’ guff. One on each Pontoon.

UVA-390-400nm.jpg400nm.jpgIMG_7140.jpg
UV 380-400nm: Provides UV-A. Looking into the effects of the ‘Crytochromes’ at the end of flowering (hence their position at 6 weeks and onwards.) and I couldn’t afford the UV-B leds…so this is just some excuse…

IMG_7116.jpg
5w LEDs: I haven’t seen anyone use this style of multichip in their setups, though im sure there has been. The 660, 730 and 390nm all have 4 chips. They provide a simpler arrangement to wire so for a crappy solderer like me this is a good thing. The 5 watters give a good amount of power for a relatively low price.

Heatsink.jpg
Heatsinks: Running 40mm (width) x 300mm (Length) and 10mm (high)

Drivers:

Driver.jpg

Main lights: Running a few different currents as this is an experiment for me and the cooling abilities of my old floodlight shells. Probably going to settle on 600-700ma to run the XPG’s and XP-G2’s.

Pontoons:Running 2 x 700ma 43-75v drivers for the pontoons. The 660 and 730nm are on one driver and a separate timer that will come on 15min before the main lights and other LED’s on the pontoons. The second driver is running the Cree XM-L2’s and the UV-A’s.

Lenses:
No lenses used, as I went for the ‘saturation’ method in my grow cabinet. I don’t have to worry about penetration of the canopy due to the size of my plants and with no lenses I can get my plants closer to the LED’s.

Cabinet:

IMG_7126.jpgIMG_7129.jpgIMG_7130.jpg
Placed ‘Panda film’ over the top of the mylar as the mylar was starting to rip and look tired. Panda film can be cleaned and is stronger

Comfrey Mulch
IMG_7138.jpg
Topped off with earth worm castings

A lot of learning has taken place about the soil ive been putting the plantz into and creating the soil from non-hydro shop sources. So im at the second version of: ‘Chroni-kool-dirt™’ (with topping of mulched comfrey covered with a layer of Earth worm castings as I enter 12/12) Recipe available on confirmation of payment…

Vessels:

Ended up using standard 2 Litre round pots, but are looking for square pots to fit the area better.

Genetix:

Will be running a selection of:
- G13 Labs ‘Purple haze’
- G13 Labs ‘Pineapple Express’
- Green House Seeds ‘Big Bang’

- Green House Seeds ‘Moby Dick’
- Paradise Seeds ‘Nebula’
Looking into new genetix will be my next task

So this is a rejinxed cabinet grow...i grow perpetually so there are already some plants in this

Not really sure where i should start this thread now....guess i'll start by following a 'Purple Haze' as it has just developed its 1st flowers.

680 and 700... EMERSON! (teamwork of photosystem 1 und 2)

660 and 730 ... phytochrome ... pr <-> pfr

Wavelengths beyond 700nm are apparently of insufficient energy to drive any part of photosynthesis.

Cryptochromes first peak is at 370nm so, no need for UVb here

Yup over here in the south (at least where im at) i have plenty access to horse tail and stinging nettle, but cant seem to find comfrey,
on a organic related note,
i recently realized theres been a rabbit shit mine in my own back yard and local canyons, ive been collecting rabbit shit for the past couple days and top dressing,
its amazing if we really think about what we can source locally for pretty much free,
all we have to do is get up and do it!

I knew i would fuck up something...thanks for clearing that up bruv...

Yeah the Cryptochromes thing is more looking for something that uses UV-A...so it makes me look clever....i almost got away with it too....damn that Guod! ;)

I've heard rabbit shit is a good manure to use (cooked to perfection of course :) )
I dont believe in hydro stores anymore.....there are rumours that they still exist though.... ;)

Day 18-20 in flower..

Might even get a kola out of this.... :)

Quite happy with the slight warm peachy tone that is present....good mix of colour happening in the growing environment.
