The Eigenharp

In development for 8 years with funding of over £10m / $16.5m, the Eigenharp is a slow-crafted technological marvel. 120 keys (each one tilting to give a flexible tone), percussion buttons, built-in sound management capabilities including recording, playback and looping, and a potentially limitless range of noises thanks to running on uploaded digitally sampled sounds. It is played via keyboard, tap-pad and mouthpiece – and the result is an instrument that sounds like a band

Meh.. it is pretty cool and all, but it just doesn't have much novelty to witness, imho... I can't really visually associate their actions with what I'm hearing... it seems like it's a fancy hand held sampler, which I guess is pretty cool... could be a lot of fun to try... just doesn't make for a terribly impressive youtube video...

Not flawless but I do think this video shows off the instrument in a more relatable way... simpler, so you can kinda get a sense of how he's doing what he's doing a bit easier... (I guess it's like the little brother version, but still, probably the one I might be able to afford anyway.)

It is impressive. But I dunno. It seems odd for me to say - being into so much electronica like Eno and whatnot - but that is a bit too techy midi sampler for me. Of course, I've been posting Hang Drums and Native Flutes and Xaphoons over in music, so lately I'm drawn to natural and/or simpler instruments.

I play the piano, myself. Well, OK, I learn it - still in Alfred's Adult Beginner books. And I have a digital piano - not a real one. I keep thinking about picking up a wood flute (or bamboo sax) at some point, and not just because they were cheaper. If money were no object, I would have a Roland 700NX and a Chapman Stick or two.

p.s. the Chapman Stick, in case you don't know:
