The far red thread

Pretty sure using incandescent bulbs provides SOME actual usable light though so maybe you're just stressing them during flowering and I won't have this problem at all. I expect much greater results with using dialed in Nm.

I'll take a few inches of stretch for a week or two shorter flower time any day. We'll have to see how these diodes fare.
The flowering time doesn't really matter much once you're on a regular rotation. And would the faster ripening plants be as potent or heavy? My last batch looked ripe at 60 days but wasn't very potent. I don't think there's any way to cheat it that works out to be advantageous. Even with extra hours of light, like 13 or 14, it may not make much difference. I haven't seen good controlled experiments on it yet. It might turn out that stretched plants get more light penetration, idk. I'm just gonna try this EOD red thing and see what happens. I'm also skipping the lizard lights because it didn't help last time that I could tell.

Here is my Far Red LED bar. I am using a mean well 12/12 1W LED driver for a power supply for two LDD700 drivers. I run this is 12 hours during bloom. I run the royal blue 24 hours during veg and get great secondary growth. Perhaps it is the genetics, but I see improvement with Royal Blue for veg and Far Red/IR for bloom. I am driving 18 FR/IR led diodes mounted on the COB heat sinks. This unit is mounted for my passive heat sink system. peace

Yes. And surprisingly, stretch is just what I personally need atm.
I have a cut of Juicy Fruit that won't quit....I call it stretch, gets like 12 feet outside when others are half that size and puts the weight on from its hybrid genes. Come to Oregon. Been running it a year now...more of the Delta Thai on the pheno...one of the most pungent Sat hybrids i have smelled :peace:

During the winds we had here the other day, i found the reason for the super small Durban poisen 37mm that's 1 1/2" after 6wk's, but that's another story.

Try adding some Green light (but not too much) with the far red during your start of day and end of day periods it should help reduce the strechyness?
there's a lot of stuff when trying to alter a circadian cycle.

my B.s.a m20 was a right sod to get over 48 mph.

interesting. when i ordered a month ago they had the 250 mw XPEFAR-L1-R250-00701 -

but now list the 210 mw XPEFAR-L1-R250-00601.

What I get from this article is that FR suppresses lower bud growth, meaning you'll get one good bud at the top but not much secondary bud growth. I guess it would make long top buds as opposed to Christmas tree shaped ones. I don't know if it would change yield weight. Most studies show similar weights except for stem weight, which is increased up to double that of plants without FR. Basically it makes the stems grow a lot more in length but with the same diameter. It's the "shade avoidance" effect.

EOD FR may or may not help flowering, depending on species. I haven't actually found any studies that proved that EOD FR changed ripening time of any short day plant. I've seen things saying that it's like adding 2 hours more of darkness, but nothing that showed that it affected ripening by more than 1 or 2 days if at all. If anybody knows of such a study I'd be interested in seeing it. Elongated stems and reduced lower bud growth may be desirable if that's what you're after. People with limited vertical space may not benefit from it as much.

HI Bobby, I cannot see where it lists as 210, I see only XPEFAR-L1-R250-00701 250mw?
do you have the link?
Cheers

These may be of help, but you may already have seen them,
i know its a far red thread but they got far red words in them
if you can fade in the far red and then a bit of green to simulate the day break then use your normal lighting, then fade out the green then far red to simulate bed time,after/during lights out, (and pulse duration) it can trigger dna stuff that can then alter the total grow/flower time, may reduce the yield as well, may not, it don't seem to make any difference to the ruderalis lot, but their just stubborn.
and the super small Durban grew 5mm yesterday since i disconnected the earth plate, it'll soon be 2" tall after 6wk. not bad if i say so myself
