The fishing thread ( not about fish fertilizer)

I'm out on Catalina for vacation this week. Had some good fun fishing the kelp beds around the island. We rented a small 20 hp boat and a drop rig. Then went off to catch whatever bit.

The teeth on some of these fish are just insane. View attachment 5300224View attachment 5300225View attachment 5300226View attachment 5300227View attachment 5300228View attachment 5300229View attachment 5300230
It's amazing the difference in water clarity once you get out to the island. I went paddle boarding there when I was a kid and you could see the Garibaldi fish (orange ones, also the state fish) down 30 feet easily.

I think my wife took a couple of pics of what you are describing. I will see if she has any good ones.

I worked with a CO at Folsom that was a scuba diver. He would take a dive charter every year for lobsters at Catalina. He was in love with the smoked salmon I would bring him and he always brought me a lobster after each dive trip. He would also bring me abalone from his free dives.

I've been watching videos posted by thru hikers on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) and they are hiking thru 9ft of snow right now. The snow melt in the Sierra is just starting and there is lots more water to come...

I went over the south Yuba river via Edwards crossing yesterday on the way up to the malikoff diggins. To show my daughter that shit. The river is still flowing hard. One of my favorite places to pan and sluice right there. There’s no doing that for a couple more months i’m guessing.
