The Flag

It's funny how we have an executive order to protect a symbol of a country whose leaders have sacrificed the will and benefit of all citizens for decades. We can take action to protect a symbol, but not our citizens. We can't take action to protect our children from gun violence, but hey, we will jail you if you harm a piece of fabric. We will remove social safety nets and then engage in violence with the unhoused. We deny the humanity of people because of their presumed place of origin.

We don't have money to help citizens, but we have billions to establish our own gestapo
We can't feed the poor, but we can house and feed those who burn a piece of fabric, at a premium.
Give me a fucking break.

I do not expect my country to live up to the ideas it presupposes as its beacon, assuming that it is making worthwhile and honest strides to improve the lives of all people in its borders, and those outside of it.

Feel free to personify and live in nostalgia of a past that never existed. It will be the ruin of tomorrow. Sacrifice tomorrow so you can put blinders on to progress of a more free world and country.

As long as the best that this government can offer is thoughts and prayers for our most vulnerable, while embolding the rich and themselves, wipe your ass with the symbol. It does not need or deserve to be protected.

It will survive or die on its merit as a symbol of this country. If a flag is tarnished, and unsuitable for display, it should be destroyed. If we are to conflate the symbol relates to the country, I would say it's fucking tarnished, and well past time to mend with a simple stitch.

(https://www.legion.org/advocacy/flag-advocacy/flag-code Section 8 - (k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.)

Wave your flags, I will wave my middle finger and a zippo.
