DEA Director Calls Medical Marijuana a “Joke”
Join the discussion: DEA Chief Says Medical Marijuana Is a ‘Joke’

Apparently, to be the head of the Drug Enforcement Agency, you must ignore Science and believe that marijuana has no medicinal value and is as bad as heroin. The interim DEA Director, Chuck Rosenberg, has now called medical marijuana a “joke”.

What really bothers me is the notion that marijuana is also medicinal — because it’s not.” We can have an intellectually honest debate about whether we should legalize something that is bad and dangerous, but don’t call it medicine — that is a joke…. There are pieces of marijuana — extracts or constituents or component parts — that have great promise” medicinally, he said. “But if you talk about smoking the leaf of marijuana — which is what people are talking about when they talk about medicinal marijuana — it has never been shown to be safe or effective as a medicine.

The previous Director of the DEA, Michele Leonhart, resigned due to scandals and after she refused to admit that marijuana is less harmful than heroin, when asked by Congress.

This flies in the face of thousands of years of cannabis use as medicine by humans. It is also an insult to those in the medical profession who’ve seen the positive results of marijuana in treating a wide range of illnesses. Indeed, medical marijuana is now LEGAL in 25 states. Yet, the DEA still lives in a dream world regarding marijuana. No doubt their budget is heavy with money for marijuana suppression. And the War on Drugs continues unabated by reality.

The DEA was created by Richard Nixon in 1973 by "executive order". Annual budget of approx. 2 billion dollars and 5000 or so employees.

Seen this coming in slow motion, 2012 I seen all the patents GW Pharmacuticals had which keeps all of us from prospering.

Hillary Clinton was all about schedule 2 in her campaign it's what the establishment wants. More money for a flower that grows on trees.

He could at the very least reach out to another department for information. But that would be too sciencey for him.

This from the NIH that contain references medical uses of MJ:

An easily grown herb that that's better at helping people live with chronic pain than opioids and many other known uses must scare the shit out of big pharma.

I guess opiod addiction is more profitable.

Even though the majority of addicts buy it on the black market to get high.

Where's all the wing nuts from last fall that said Trump would use the future tax revenue from legalization?

Personally, I think opioid addiction is a medical problem and addicts should get treatment to relieve suffering if they want it. Treatment option could include opioid prescriptions.

Of course it's a medical problem, one that pharma created by pushing sales.

I could buy opiods off 10 different people right now with a phone call.

It's absurdly out of hand and weed would be a great replacement is all I'm saying.

When I moved my Mom up here from Vegas the first thing her new doctor did was lower her pain med dosage so I've got a bunch of leftover 30mg oxycontin & oxycodone.
I have a stash of left overs -- nothing like 30 mg -- for pain relief after I had some dental work done.

It helps deal with pain but I find it to be a shitty high. IMO. Fucks up my sleep too. I'm in no way tempted to dip into it for fun. That said, I sympathize with people who either casually or accidentally became addicted. Treat as a disease. Maybe use medical MJ to help overcome cravings once the patient has gotten through withdrawals. States that have legalized are seeing decreased use of opioids too.

Like an increasing number of politically controlled government agencies, policy and reality have no relation to each other- and their jobs depend on toeing the party line.

Another example of credibility bring less important than the CASH.
