Wavels ...

There's an old story about Art Tatum; He was hired to play at a high society function ... an elitest party in a mansion. He was just cruising along during the party playing his stride stuff, when a snobbish woman approached him with her nose in the air and asked: "Mr. Tatum, do you play any Chopin?" Tatum responded with: "Why, Yes'm ... Ah plays him a little bit". He then proceeded to play Chopin etudes perfectly for the next three hours. *lol* I love that story.

Hi M.O, are you familiar with Leo Kottke? Fingerpicker extraordinaire!
I love his playing.

Yea Vi, Tatum was a stunning talent, a true virtuoso....he would leave other pianists awestruck with his prodigious technique.
For shame, most on this site have probably never even heard of Art!

Damn that guy Don Ross is pretty good. I watched like all the videos there with him playing and all i can say is wow.
yea, Don Ross is an absolute monster! one of the best guitarists on the planet...and whom I deem the spiritual successor to the great Michael Hedges..whom pioneered the "new age" of acoustic guitar playing back in the 1970-80's. (along with players like Leo Kottke).

Michael Hedges is probably one of the main reasons I started playing guitar and wanted to play acoustic stuff. He died in a freak , bizarre car accident in the 1990's. Anyway, check this out..an amazing piece for sure :

Yea, when you start getting into classical and Jazz guys, then man...there is an endless amount of extremely talented players that , sadly, never see much commercial success.

guys like Django, Alan Holsdworth, Frank Gambali, Joe Pass...the guys you mentioned (I had heard of them before, tho not too familliar with their stuff..I like all kinds of guitar music :) )

Ha, this is one of my passions......the pursuit of guitar perfection....

Kessel is very good....I enjoy his playing...interesting mention......for jazz my faves are
Kenny Burrell, Herb Ellis, Jim Hall, Joe Pass, Howard Alden.......(if you like Django check out this guy he did the playing in Sweet and Lowdown......sort of a tribute to Django...)
John Scofield, Pat Martino, Grant Green, Al Dimeola, George Barnes, Dave Stryker, Metheny....too many more....

I think Christopher Parkening is in the stratosphere, right along with John Williams for classical styling....both are superior players, IMO!!!
