Thats what I was figuring on. I don't *have* a current system, just thinking. The float valve/bottom watering would be easiest to do. A drip system isn't hard either. (just adds in electronics)

I'm just hunting for the simplest hands off system (I know there will be some maint)

You don't want to maintain that water level. You'll end up getting root rot. It's important for the plants to drink up the water that they have in that resevoir at the bottom of the bucket before you add new water. If you always keep that water there in the bottom those roots won't be able to get enough air to live, and wamo, root rot.

I don't see the problem with bottom feeding per say, assuming that the medium you use has enough of a wick type action. It's important for all of the roots to get some water, and not just the ones on the bottom. That being said I don't really see the advantage of bottom feeding to top feeding.

If you were planning on using your home automation style float valve on hempy buckets, I think you would be better off just doing it the way you have it right now. Top feeding with drippers twice a week. I think that if you switched your set up from where the resevior was on the float valve, to where all of the buckets were on the float valve you'll end up over watering, getting diseases, stressing the plant, and inviting root rot.

I hope this helps, but I would like to hear what Az has to say on the topic, as he certainly is more of the authority on the matter than I.

My plan was to keep just plain water in my 10 gallon resevoir. Every third feeding I would water by hand with 1/2 strength nutes. The rest of it will be done with that system, even when I am home.

Hey What up AzGrow, I checked out the thread a few months back, n now I have two hempy clones one very small in a 8 oz. another too big in a 16.oz. So far I like the method. So much so to use over my stealth hydro bubbleponics tanks. Though I cant say that they grow as fast side by side. But for space saving, they are the best. And the ability to move around and the lack of needing capitol. How do you get pictures in a reply without a url??? Like upload???

AZ How does Transplanting go for you??? With so many pages I havn't read through. So sorry if I am making you repeat yourselve. The first one from 8oz to 16oz. the perlite fell apart on me, though it didn't get transplant shock or anything. Still moving. They just don't move as fast as my bubbleponics, but I think my bubbleponics net pots are to close together and the reservoir is 14 15 " tall.

hey so im doing my first grow hempy style and its going great so far, i have 6 plants in 16 oz party cups and theyre growing fast. i have one problem with my oldest one tho, its about 2.5 weeks old and its leaves look real healthy and green but theyre all curling in. i water them every day with a schedule water water feed, and go a little under half strength with some 10-15-10 schultz plant food. anyone know what it could be?

It seems like overwatering, but check into those nutes. I think you should have something rich in nitrogen right now. I'm not sure if exact numbers, look it up though. May just be another problem.

check your drainage hole/s to make sure there not clogged an holding excess water other then that try an cut back to every other day using the same system just space it out...as for the npk value if vegging high n is required for flowering you want a higher p-k but still a good amount of n as early on plants will go n def if not loaded up for flower....peace az

thats schultz will make your water ph shoot up make sure you ph your water AFTER you add your nutes.... on IC mag they use the schultz in conjuunction with the 5-1-1 fish emulsions (very low ph) and it the mixture seems to work well

the styrofoam ones you could..not the cardboardy one....as for transplanting i belive we found the best way to do it was semi dry but still a lil damp an that worked the best...but if you can i'd just cut the bottem of the 1st container off an place it directly on top the new one....peace az

I cut the bottom on my recent transplant, holding it straight over new bucket and it fell through. Got some root damage in the transplant, but it doesn't seem like the plant minds. Oh so far loving the method.

Question. I've read all the info, and love what I'm seeing. My mother(hopefully) that I've started from seed, seems to being growing at an extremely slow rate. I feel like my soil is kinda compact. This is all general stuff that I, and most of us know, about how the roots need room to grow. But my questions is, what if I used a mix of like 50/50 soil to perlite? I'm about 2 and a half weeks in, and I'm not sure if I want to shock the hell out of it trying to get all the soil out of the roots.. What do you guys think?
