The Irish Growers Thread!

Hello hello lovely Irish growers. It's been a LOOOOOOOONG time since I was here, but I'm ready to get my hands dirty again. I hope life is treating everyone well? :)

So.... I have 2 Blue Mystic AF that I plan to grow first but nothing started yet as I need to set up my wardrobe space, etc. I'm ordering a 300w dual spec CFL with reflector as I had a couple of successful single plant grows using a similar kit and a 125w dual spec. This time I'm hoping to grow both at the same time with the bigger bulb.

I plan to grow in soil, but I find myself boggled by all the info on soils, nutes, ph, etc... There's so much info out there, but a lot of it isn't relevant in our green country as the products aren't available so I'm hoping my fellow country people can point me in the right direction please? For those of you growing AF's indoors, what soils and nutes would you recommend? I think I used miracle gro previously, and the nutes I used were soiltabs and flowertabs from Nirvana. I'd much prefer to shop local though if I can.

Sorry if these questions have already been asked here but with a little person running around my feet and over 1500 pages, I just don't have time to read it all!

DONT use miracle grow.Buy your soil in a grow shop if possible.
You need 2 types low fertilized at first then final pot need heave fertilized soil.
Roughly where are you in the country, We can point you to your nearest shop.
 
Save your money and buy a small HPS or metal halide. Not easy to get good flowers with a CFL. They just don't have the light intensity. The extra running cost is negligible IMO and the extra yield & quality will more than cover it. Get a digital ballast if you can. But even a magnetic ballast will out perform 1 CFL.

Thanks for the suggestion Roobarb but I've had good results with cfls in the past so Im happy to stick with them. Plus the initial setup costs are cheaper. For now, cheaper is my only option.

Look up "the hydroponic store" in Dublin. I use the one in the north, it's the same lads and ther spot on
 
Look at that! I've been upgraded to well known. Even I don't know myself that well, lol :)

Would you recommend biobizz light for the whole grow, adding biogro/bloom for the veg/flower stages or should I repot in all mix for the flower stage? Any other nutes I should be using?

HPS is an investment for a later date :)

I'm sure Ive come across the hydroponics store online but I'll defo suss them properly

First time poster here.. wondering if its worth it to attempt an outdoor grow on the west coast.. Lots of land and privacy but not much point if it would be more work than its worth.. I did a bit of research was thinking some Hollands Hope, Frisian Duck and some variant of a Northern lights? Was hoping that I could just germinate them and then plant them in some south facing hillside with a bit of cover but that seems much to easy.. Do they need to be potted or can I stick them straight in the ground? I've lots of questions if anyone is willing to answer, I apologise if any of my Qs have been asked previously.

Outdoor growing is pretty hard in Ireland. Auto flowers stand some chance if we get a summer. And no, It won't be as easy as planting a seed and coming back 2 months later. You'll need to prep the ground. Basically dig a big hole and fill it with more suitable soil or you could start them in +10 litre pots and just hide them. They won't grow too well in ordinary soil. It needs to be a spot you can visit - to water/feed if needed and it will get eaten to fuck by every passing deer, cat, goats. I don't know what but the odd one of mine used to get eaten to the butt. Bugs will also find it very attractive so you'll need to think about them.

What soil combinations do you recommend? I have tons of compost horse manure mainly. I read that horse manure is too dense and I should mix it with something for better aeration and drainage. Any recommendations? Are the strains I listed okay? As for shelter they will be in pots in amidst a wooded area nowhere near walking or hiking tracks. I was thinking of using some chicken wire or sheep wire to keep out the larger pests but I doubt I'll have any trouble on that front. Do I need to have black plastic nearby to cover them I there's bad wind or rain? Thanks lads
 
The problem with using manure in my opinion is it's a bit hit & miss regarding soil PH. I tried a few times but always had problems. If PH is too high or low your plants won't take up nutrients.
 
Too shady a spot and your plants will grow tall and thin cos they are trying to get more light. This will affect yield. You will need some direct sunlight for at least 3-4 hours a day.

Are you far from Galway? Think there is a grow shop there. It's better to buy canna specific soil. Don't buy the cheap shit? It usually has a high peat content and will have a higher PH. Stay away from the fertilised stuff as well. No miracle grow or John Innes or any of that shite.
