Electricity is charged by the Kilowatt/hour - one 'unit' represents 1000W for 1 hour. A 250W HPS will consume approximately one quarter of a unit per hour - one unit every 4 hours. I say approximately as the exact consumption will depend on the efficiency of the ballast.

Running a 250W HPS for 12 hours per day, for 60 days you would consume (250 x 12 x 60 =) 180,000 Watt/hours, or 180 Kilowatt/hours - 180 units. The most expensive charge per unit for electricity in Ireland at the moment is 18.37 cents per unit (ESB standard residential rate). At this rate your 180 units would cost €33.07. You would need to check your own electricity bill to see what you're being charged per unit at the moment, and check that the figure includes VAT. You may for example have a day rate and a night rate with the VAT listed seperately on the bill.

Note that the ESB doesn't necessarily check your meter every 2 months, often they will send you an estimated bill every 2 months but do an actual meter reading every 4th or 6th month. For this reason you may not be charged for the extra consumption immediately and so the bill may appear to jump suddenly at some point in future - i.e. €66 extra payable in 4 months time, followed by €33 extra every 2 months thereafter.

Takin a chance at makin some tincture- 3grams power kush 3 grams afghan grown under 600hps organicaly, 63% rum (€27!)-
did some research and instead of the cookin method im just gona do the "shake AM/PM" i.e. two shakes everyday for a month while keeping the jar in a dark place, (light degrades thc?)

the main wiggle room with the strenght ratio of booze to weed is that after your 30 days or whatever time you chosse you can simply air off as much alcohol as you want leaving you your desired concentrate... i love messin with ganj!!

Yeah, stopped a while back now...
Missus kindda agreed to one plant (plus a couple of clones) so now I want to see about getting as much from 1 plant.. Scrog is the answer, however I'm thinking vertical..

get it done jay! get those seeds wet! power kush does good topped so presume it will produce well scrog'd? giz a PM if u need a seed? i dont have any clones to offer...

Hey folks. I'm currently looking into building a small stealth grow into a cabinet thats about 4 feet high. Because of the limited height, and because I want to grow just a small amount of good quality smoke, I'm thinking a 400W HPS in a vented reflector hood with a couple of CFLs for early vegging and later side-lighting might be the best way to go. I want just enough lighting to get nice dense frosty buds, and I read that the right bulb can make a big difference.

I'm looking to buy the light/bulb over the counter for cash in Ireland as I don't like the idea of ordering bulbs online. Can anyone recommend bulbs readily available in Ireland that they've have particularly good success with? Also, any bulbs to avoid? Thread linked below, any feedback you could offer in there would be very much appreciated.

You won't get a CMH in any shop Iv tried, but the standard Sylvania 400w HPS bulbs you can buy nearly anywhere are decent too. 400w without CFLs should be plenty in that space and will provide plenty of smoke...I used to get like 8-10ounces off my 400w HPS.

what part the island you from,,plenty up here round navan dublin louth,,if your near there is a few good shops,,,to be honest ur better on ebay man get it in from england,,get new shit cheaper and almost everything you want

I'm thinking a perpetual micro SOG, small mother plants and propagation in a separate box and putting batches of 6 inch clones in to flower under the HPS every 3 weeks, packed close together in small pots. It's the only way I can think of getting a few strains growing in a small space with frequent harvests. I'd like to keep as little dried product in the house as possible between harvests, just in case the blue meanies ever come calling, so frequent small harvests seem like a good way for me to go.

I'm worried about the more mature plants shading the new clones though and causing them to stretch, so I'm thinking maybe some CFLs placed below the main canopy but above the new clone batches might prevent them from stretching up to the canopy too quickly. Woodies DIY have 21W CFLs at 2 euro each at the moment (Newlec branded) so seems a nice way to get the job done cheap. Really good to hear that the 400W light will yield well, was worried that maybe I needed more watts. With enough CFLs down low would I get away with a 250W HPS up top do you think or would I get fluffy buds?

I'll probably drive to Dublin to get some of the heavier or more fragile stuff when the time comes. I don't want the hassle of sending a bulb or ballast back by courier/post if it arrives damaged. Or do the EBay sellers in the UK package the stuff well enough for that to be a non-issue?
