The Lemonade Revolt!!!!

What has the world come to?

Last Thursday a 7 year old girl set up a lemonade stand at an art fair in northeast Portland. She was quickly approached by 2 officials with clipboards who then notified her she was in violation of a city ordinance which requires a $120 vendors permit to peddle 50 cent cups of lemonade! I understand, rules are rules, but come one! This is as American as apple pie or cheeseburgers! Do we really need government thugs stepping in to protect us from big bad lemonade stands. Sorry to say, but I think that was fair. Too many people are pushing their children to become beggars, and not workers. Ok not this little girl in particular, but at our local Saturday market I seen 3 small ( 6-12) children in different location playing some instrument and trying to get coin thrown in there hat. That is sad.

If the parents are pushing the kids into it, then yes I agree but a little girl selling lemonade at a little art fair shouldn't provoke the gestapo into coming in and smashing the stand (I'm exaggerating). I just think that government, local, state or federal, are overstepping their bounds and abusing their power in a lot of cases. 7 year olds selling lemonade for 50 cents a cup should be exempted from this sort of treatment.

But then it would not stop and get to the point where there are many of them. And then what?
I always support lemonade stands at a yard sale or front yard, but never do I support pan handling. I see so much of it in Eugene, Or. it makes me sick. Parents teaching their children to do the same is sick.

Panhandling is a totally different issue, I think. I don't see a kid's lemonade stand as the same thing. A 7 year old girl was trying to sell lemonade at 50 cents a cup. Panhandling, to me anyway, would be if she were sitting on the corner with an empty cup saying "Got any spare change?". I can't stand that shit either. I never give panhandlers money. Ever! Adults or kids, it doesn't matter to me, but a lemonade stand is a summer tradition and is harmless and shouldn't be subjected to the same harsh government oversight as, say, a bar and grill. Bars serve alcohol and handle people's food. I could understand if the girl was blowing snot rockets into the ice bin or scratching her ass and then grabbing handfuls of ice with her bare hands. She was supposedly using an ice scoop and was frequently using hand sanitizer. Let the kid make a couple of bucks for chris' sake!

LOL snot rockets. I just believe there is a place for children and there stands, and it's not at public events. If it where, think about how many parents would throw there own children into these events with more and more elaborate "children" lemonade stands. They would soon over run the events.

That's a good point. It seemed that the festival had pretty loose rules in the past and was sort of a "free for all" type of event (mass chaos, I know). As medman is so quick to point out that capitalism is to blame. Wake the fuck up medman! This has nothing to do with free market economics, capitalism or any of those things you loathe so much, but which has afforded you relative luxury and comfort. This is actually the opposite of capitalism. We have big govt. overstepping their bounds and rousting little girls and this is some how the fault of capitalism? Overregulation maybe, capitalism doubtful. And perhaps it was the competition calling up their buddies in the govt. to roust the little girl in an attempt to kill the competition. LMFAO!!!! You are too much medman. How the fuck is a 7 year old's lemonade stand gonna compete with a carnie vendor? You never cease to amaze me.

Hell my kids sell lemonade and freah squeezed orange juice every summer.

they just stepped in because there have to be permits to set up a stand at events.

no biggie.

I have friends who try and set up 'illegal' stands at events to sell the "tie-die" t-shirts and stickers, they get kicked out all the time. they once got arrested for disorderly conduct, even though they were packing up and leaving as fast as possible...

there has to be some sort of order for these things. it's a public event that requires extra police on hand, and to pay for all that the county sells permits.

the police and "GOVERNMENT GETSAPO" did not overstep their boundaries. they would be overstepping their boundaries if a person that legally obtained a permit, but were kicked out because they don't like the color of the lemonade she sold...;

get your heads out of your asses. there's the right way to do things.

then there's the little girl's way.

it's not fair to all the adults that got kicked out for having set up illegally if they would've let that girl stay because "it's as american as apple pie".

and FYI: i'm in AMERICA, with a bunch of AMERICANS, and I'M AMERICAN and i've yet to see lemonade stands with lil kids running the joint round every other street in the 'burbs near this city........

i do see mexicans selling bottles of water sometimes..... THEY TOOK oUR JURRRRR!!!!!

I think this speaks to the mood in the country. If it were a simple procedural matter then why has it blown up and become a story on most major news outlets? I'll answer that one for ya. It's because this story resonates with the way a lot of people feel about their government.

They should have sent SWAT to take care of what is obviously a Terrorist threat to sell people lemonade that turns them into Muslims. Where is homeland security and the tax feeders we hired to run it?

Ha! It WAS a matter of utmost national security wasn't it?

i had a kool aid stand when I was a kid, went out in front of the public pool and made mad cash for a few summers. Adults always take pity on some poor kid and give em 5 bucks for a 10 cent drink, you get 50 adults a day to do that, well... The government always wants its fees to license you and its taxes for selling what is yours to another private entity.
