The Main-Lining Thread

I like to keep the fan leaves to help the growth. If they wont stop growing side branches then you can take them off. The idea of this method is to have 100% of the energy going to the colas.

Should i be removing ALL side growth tips to ensure all production goes to the main stalk. I have been doing this but im getting scared im removing to much. But the side growth is growing so rapidly! They are about 2.5 inches after 4-5 days. I cut them (leaving the fan leaf underneath everytime) then 5 days later the smaller ones above it grow to 2.5 inches. if i didnt do this my 8 cola plant would have 40 small mains. Am i doing this correctly or am i taking to much off? Any help is much appreciated

Well, i'm by no means an expert on this method of growing, i have done a few grows over the years. In any setup focusing on the cola, i removed anything over, "I believe", 1/2 inch in length.....Again confirm with the others here before chopping lol....

I did SOG growing and tried this once under a screen, and it went wild on me, so it wasn't even canopy of colas. just remember they will stretch in flower, and you them to be incorporated into the cola, not a mini branch under the cola. Good luck M8

Here is a pic of my under canopy. I let my plants go through stretch and then remove anything under the 12" to 18" canopy. I pull off any small growth. I will harvest the top colas and let the others go for a week or two.
I am diligent about removing "popcorn" underneath. Unlike @Mohican (who does a great job of focusing the growth towards the "main colas" ) I will let my plants grow a little taller and then harvest what is lower a few weeks later.

The point is to remove what will not amount to significant "buds" and waste energy towards "popcorn" buds.

Hope this helps @aiblueskyroots @greyduck IMG_4211.jpg

You can go even more radical and use an X-Aacto knife to shave the nubs flat to the stem. Make sure you sterilize the blade with H2O2 or a flame before you use it.

The fist few pages of this thread show how Nugbuckets does this.

Mainlining really works best with large cola plants like sativa dominant strains.

Cheers,
Mo

Thank you for the replies. Ive been studying the pictures and it looks like nugbuckets removes the side growth. Btw, has anyone heard from nugs recently?

Hey guys. Loving the mainlining action thats going on in here.

Ive mainlined a couple of strains now. Vanilla kush, blue dream and now pineapple chunk. Blue dream being the best performer so far.

Im wondering what strains you guys would recommend for mainlining. As it seems not all strains take to it as well as we'd like.

Day 31 Flower, they average about 26" . Am I heading in the right direction half way through? Just wondering if its filling out how it should be, this is only my second try with the mainlining method and the first wasn't as successful as hoped. Had 3 hermies from 3 seeds from a specific company that i will not mention.

Better by the day. I ran lower end leds this time for a personal comparison on yield and electric usage compared to my advanced diamond. And at this point i feel if you know how to read what the plant is telling you, you can definatly get similiar yields to high end led and hps. Again this comparision is not over, i will know alot more come harvest. Im definatly on the "schwazzing" bandwagon now btw lol.
