Have you guys encountered the same problem that you trimmed too much undergrowth and the colas filled up only half way. I did my first attempt of mainlining on my white widows and that happened, the colas filled up only half way and not all the way like in nugbuckets pics. I guess it has to do with strain choice, sativa dominants stretch more after flipping. But also another thought was that I trimmed too much and took off bud sites.

OK folks,

Started the new fall grow, and I have a question.
First a little back ground, germ'ed seed in Root Riots cubes went into Solo cup Hempy's on July 19th, and transplanted into two gallon 50/50 mix of coco coir and perlite on July 31st.

Please look at the pics and answer this question.
If I remove the lower two nodes (not counting the first single set of very small leaves) would I count my 6 nodes starting at the top of the coir, do I count from the original mix line or do I count the original two nodes?

leaf cuts.jpg

I plan to remove the lower two nodes so I can add about an 1"layer of coir over the top of the mix for two purposes: keep light and algae away for the surface of the mix and help hold moisture in the upper root zone for better growth.

My thought is start counting from the top of the coir, giving the plant a little longer veg for more root development. I know Nug's say's wait till the 5th or 6th nodes before starting the mainline but I am just not sure where to start my count.

Thanks,

GR

I think that you are in the ballpark.

The number is not critical.

I like to pick branches that look very strong and
are very well balanced...i.e. not at all staggered.

Good luck,

JD

Thanks JD,
I think the CC/BBGA will be opposites but not sure about the WW she does not look at all like her sisters from the same seed shipment.
But yeah, I just want to make sure the plant is strong when I go shaping so a little extra veg won't hurt, should increase root mass.

Did that last grow, ain't going to happen this time.

Remove the small stuff at the bottom. That plant looks very Kushy which means it will need more air and trimming. The key is to let the plant get to the point where it starts exploding with growth. Then top it down to two strong nodes (they can be high or low on the stem), sex it (12/12), go from there. I have found that keeping leaves on the branches longer gives you a stronger faster plant. You also don't need to keep topping at the lowest node.

I used light dep on a pure sativa and kept the plant short:

Harvested in October instead of January!

MO, That plant of your looks very sativa, thin narrow leaves.
Thanks for the info, The Blackberry/grape ape in the CC/BBGA are kush's, can tell they will be short and thick.

Hey guys,
Thought I would share some pictures of my current mainline project. This is my second grow and I decided to try mainlining a clone. The clone is White Poison ( Durban Poison X White Widow). It is just under 6 weeks since I obtained the clone.
Two Pictures, one is the canopy with 8 tops nicely forming, the other is the under workings of the plant.

Update on my first mainlining project with White Poison clone. This girl was switched over to flowering 7-7-14 so she will be 5 wks flowering tomorrow.

Thanks! It's been a long road, but we are getting there. I'm guessing 3-4 more weeks of flowering based on the flowering times of white widow and durban poison, but I will start checking trichome color around 7wks.

Thanks Corytrevor. She has been grown in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog mixture with added perlite.
During Veg I fertilized very minimal because there is plenty of nutrients in the soil to last a couple months. I did use Molasses every other watering to feed the soil microbes, and fertilized very minimally with Age Old Grow (Age Old Organics).
Switching to flowering I put her in a 5 gallon pot again with Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog with added perlite. To the soil mixture I added Dr. Earth Flower Girl Bud and Bloom Booster dry fertilizer (this is some good shit and I highly recommend this Brand) http://drearth.net/products/organic-fertilizers/organic-8-bud-bloom-booster/
I didn't fertilize for the first 2 weeks of flower until stretch was done and I started to seeing flowers knowing there was plenty of nutrients in the fresh soil.
Now I have been Fertilizing with a light mixture every week of:
Beastie Bloomz (Foxfarms)
Dr Earth Liquid Fertilizer I use the liquid mainly for the Calcium and Magnesium along with prebiotics for the soil.
Age old Bloom (Age Old Organics)
at 5 wks I scratched another dose of the the Flower girl into the top layer of soil.
It seems like a lot of fertilizers but I use them all at 1/4 to 1/2 strength, she is responding very well and hasn't been showing any signs of stress that I can see.
I haven't been keeping a journal on here, just on my computer using endnote to keep track for my sake lol.

Day 30 from germ in Root Riots 7/14, day 25 from putting the sprouted beans in Solo cup Hempy's 7/19, and day 13 from transplanting from Solo cups to 2 gallon Coir/Perlite Hempy's 7/31. Growth has slowed some but the roots are beginning to reach the resivoir so I expect rapid grow to pick up soon.
The plants spend the daylight hours outside and the nights in the cabinet.
Here are a few pics from yesterday.

Clockwise from the 12 o'clock postions are CC/BBGA 1 through 5 with the White Widow in the middle.

How many weeks before the plants start showing first signs of sex?

I'm never main lining again, too much time and effort and not enough patience tbh. You need a LOT of patience for this type of grow and yeah in summer you might add an extra 2 weeks to veg but in winter under lights add an extra 8 weeks! This has been the slowest most tedious grow so far for me! Sure done right it yields an avg 2-4 ounces per cola but good damn a 6 month grow? Naaaaa i'll stick to my cropping and LST thank you evry much as i haven't got time for a looong grow. My wife is also pissed at how long this is taking as well. Not good at all. When i first started growing it was with autos and she let me do it because it was 2 months all up..but not now.

I poped all my seeds in mid may i just flipped to 12/12 last week..and its still not the height it should be. Mind you i am using 2 400w HPS lights and coco..its just been a veeeerrrryyyyy sloooowwwwwww process.

So yeah unless you are some kind of growing enthusiast with a lot of spare time and patience give this technique a miss.
