I was looking into purchasing the QB 648 Diablo with slate 2 heat sink. Does anyone know the best driver option to power it?
Sorry probably for 3 I think a hlg-320h-c2800a or hlg-320h-54a might work, don’t hold me to it.
Maybe hlg-240h-54a for two?

56V... Hm. That seems strange and limiting to not have it at least only 54 but I'm sure when currents lower, so is the voltage. By a little bit at least.

They have the 260W and 320W DIY kits up now. The 260W comes with a Meanwell XLG-240-M-AB.

Also not sure but I think @bigbudz00 was saying he wanted to buy 1 board and a slate 2 heatsink? I don't see a single board DIY kit so not sure. What wattage are you trying to run it at?

so for the new board u need to run the 54 volt version driver I would have to guess right if so that's surprising but its way more diodes per board so it'll pay off I guess

I don't have to much money to spend on a light and originally was just going to get the hlg 100 but then I saw the 648 and thought I could get way more out of it.

I was hoping to get away with running one for a 4x4 box.
for veg/flower or both?

the HLG100 is not dimmable, and would cover a 2x2 area at most during flower and not do a great job. You want at least 120W for a 2x2 area flowering.

you want @ 480W of QBs to cover a 4x4, and you can't push that much through one 648 boards even if you wanted to.

the 260W kits say they cover a 2x4 footprint in flower. so 2 of those would be great coverage.

Also if you are on a budget I would get 2 of the 260W v2 Rspec DIY kits instead and save yourself a few hundred dollars.

For veg/flower. I don't have 750 bucks to spend on lights. I wish I did. It weird that the 288's can handle the same power as the 648. on HLG site their both the kits (288's and 648's) run off the same 240H driver. I was assuming it could handle more power. If not why is there more diodes? coverage and efficiency?

One last thing to note so that you understand all the costs, since it sounds like this is your first setup.

The HLG100 is a complete fixture that comes with driver and everything. You just pretty much plug it in.

The QB648 boards are for DIY setups and require a heatsink, plus a driver (@$50-70 depending on various factors), plus a few other items such as power cord, m3 mounting screws, wagos/connectors, connecting wire, and hanging clips/ropes (@ $40-50 depending if you need them shipped etc). You then need to assemble it all yourself. You can either buy everything individually, or pay a little extra to HLG and get everything all at once.

Honestly in light of everything going on I think just ordering the DIY kits from HLG is a better option especially for someone who has never built a light before. You only save a few bucks doing it yourself. Also ordering the various parts you will need even off amazon is now taking forever. I just ordered some m3 screws and other stuff I needed for a new fixture and shipping time is 2-3 weeks.

Yes. The diodes run at roughly half the power of the 288 boards so the diodes are more efficient and put off more light per watt. Or that is my simple explanation. Someone else can give better answer.

What's your budget? We can probably point you to a different thread with other options. The 648 just dropped this week and definitely not the cheapest way to go.
